I just finished building up this with Luthier Paul Iverson:

It's not hugely loud acoustically but sonically beautiful. Perfect for working on chops, song ideas and those intimate moments [if you know what I mean]. It's got a Kent Armstrong floating humbucker at the neck and 4 piezo mics attached to the soundboard. Plugged in it goes from big acoustic to mellow jazz box to straight up rock. I've got a build history at www.VerneAndru.com -> click Danedetto Project in the Spotlight sidebar. There are a couple of clips with more to come soon.

It's certainly not your conventional body style, but that's a large part of the appeal to me. The body including the horms is about the same sized [length and width] as my classical - in fact it fits into my classical's gig bag and an old dreadnot case - so the indentation between the body horns sit's right where it should to sit on your lap. Because the body is thin by acoustic guitar standards, it sits really nicely with a strap and is light as a feather.

First of all, impressive work and a true labor of love. What you have done is no insignificant modification. I'm sure this guitar never sounded like this.

I am listening to the clips now!

Very Jazzy.. sweet tones. Different! Rich ambient tones.

The second one is almost orchestral!!

Beautiful. And at the same time different.

Congrats!!

A vision realized!!:thu:

Thanx. From what I can see, Danelectro/Coral never did anything with these bodies other than warehouse them. Based on the other Coral archtop designs they were destined to be drilled out and a couple of lipstick tube pickups screwed into the body. Kinda ruins the whole concept of an archtop, but that was where their heads were at in the 60's.

It worked out so well I've tracked down another body and am going to build up another one with some modifications/refinements. If I can get enough interest I'm even considering doing an updated body design for a production model.

It's really the most versitle guitar I've every played. The mellow jazz tones - next on my clip to-do list - are to die for! And with the humbucker and piezo's running out separate channels, I can run the humbucker through distortion while keeping the piezo's clean thus you can get a super ballsey distorted sound but retain the note articulation [they do this now by tring to mic the body].

I'm really excited about this little guitar, and I don't get excited often or easily!
