i've read reviews praising its balance and projection. good price, and it's not bad looking either. i plan on going down state to check it and a few others out before i make a decision.

really, i would prefer a super jumbo, but i haven't the funds.

For that price range, there are lots of guitars to choose from. Are you looking for a dread, acoustic electric, cutaways, etc.?I've played different guitars and own three acoustics. The Taylor and the Blueridge BR-160 are great guitars for the price. The Blueridge sounds similar to the Taylor, but the Taylor feels better to me.Another choice could be Walden guitars. These are sleepers in my opinion.Seagulls are an excellent choice as well.Takamines are ok,too. I'd say just go to the music store and check them out.Don't be afraid to go used either, you may have more options there.

If you would prefer a Jumbo, go to Guitar Center and check out the Cort Parkwood PW340FM. It is a Jumbo with all solid wood, spruce top, flamed maple sides and back, Grover tuners, compensated bone saddle, scalloped bracing, ebony bridge pins, a blond satin finish - a really stunning looking guitar. And it is well within your price range. I bought one a month or so ago and I love it. It is loud, clear, has good sustain, has a fast neck. It is a really great guitar.

I've seen and played the new Guilds and I found the Cort Parkwood to be a better sounding guitar and significantly less expensive. Quality-wise they appeared about equivilant. That said, everyone who has posted on the new Guilds seems to rate them very highly.

The key is to check around and try everything you can until you find yourself gravitating back to that one guitar that really came alive in your hands. Seek and ye shall find!

I think the Taylor 110 is the best there is in that price range. I admit that this is a completely subjective opinion on my part, as people hear and want different things from their guitar, and not every guitar of the same model even sounds the same. I've tried (and bought) other things that I like, but to me, the Taylor 110 is a best buy and a keeper. I had gone to G.C.originally looking to buy a 310 or a lower Martin, and ended up with a 110E. It had a bigger, better sound with more bass and clearer trebles, the 310 was too quiet and the Martins just didn't have anything but bass (I know, dead strings). I tried the Fender Ensenada recently, it was nice and had an interesting sound, the Guild was decent too. But I liked a Larrivee and an Alvarez Master series more, as well as the Taylor 214. It's all subjective. Since you're going to check a few guitars out you'll be hearing and judging for yourself, but do yourself a favor and make sure you try out the 110. Oh, and try to play more than one if you can, like any guitar the sound can vary between instruments.
