Members Dan B Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 Darksun, I went through the same exercise a few weeks ago because I wanted to have some easy songs to regale my friends with at a party. I searched the internet for '3 chord guitar songs' and assembled a pretty good list of tunes from some books I found on Amazon. I took that list to www.ultimate-guitar.com and got the tabs and, voila, I had my song book for the evening. Admittedly, the 3 chord songs were pretty lame sounding, but no one but me really new that (I think/hope).Drunk people make a great audience for us newbs!(Another tip that just popped to mind; lots of Eagles songs can be simplified to 3 and 4 easy chords and EVERYBODY knows them so they are great sing-along tunes.)Hope some of this helps!
Members DonK Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 A few: Teach Your Children (CSN) - four chords, just about everyone knows the words, so it's a crowd pleaser. Mother Nature's Son (Beatles) - Sounds harder than it is, but still basically a strum song with easy chords. Take It Easy (Eagles) - Another strummer, and familiar to most people. In general, if you're just picking up the guitar at a party, your best bet is to play familiar songs people will be tempted to sing along with. If you're giving a performance, then you want to think more about advanced flatpicking and fingerpicking.
Members Dan B Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 I just remembered that I have most of the tabs that I created for the party (see previous post) stored in Word format. I will upload them a little later (I'm at work now ) when I get a chance. Check back!!
Members rh2d Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 A long time ago I made a book of songs and chords to use at partys in hopes people would sing along with me. This was before the computer and Net. so it was work to keep the list current. I still have that book and use it often. It's a lot easier to keep current now with the Net. and all but how valuable it is to go back to those old songs and sing them at a party. Start a note book you can use over and over. You will be glad you did when you reach my age.

Members Dan B Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 Hey Darksun, here's a link to a zip file I uploaded to my website (I'm a web developer by night):http://www.dantekonline.com/PartyTunes.zip There are four Word files included in the compressed file and I honestly don't remember all of what's in them. I just remembered think at the time that they would be good songs for a bunch of drunk old farts. Most are very easy to play if I remember correctly. I hope enjoy some of these.
Members bigby Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 Here are some easy party tunes that go well on acoustic: Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison Layla - Eric Clapton (unplugged version of course) Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Country Roads - John Denver Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain - Willie Nelson Polly - Nirvana Creep - STP That should get ya started.
Members thatsbunk Posted June 13, 2006 Members Posted June 13, 2006 some easy 3 chord "campfire" stuff: rolling stones- dead flowers neil young- love is a rose dylan- knockin on heavens door guns & roses- used to love her loudon wainwright- dead skunk and a million others... Drunk people also love tv show theme music. People may not be able to walk, but will know the lyrics to the brady bunch, adams family, beverly hillbillies, etc.

Members KATMAN Posted June 14, 2006 Members Posted June 14, 2006 My personal favorites are: Dust in the wind by Kansas......a great beginner's fingerpicking song. The Needle and the Damage done....by Neil Young. pretty easy, but sounds harder than it is. It Could've been Me by Phil Keaggy....cool song, and in Open G tuning.

You can mix it up with different keys, bass lines and fills here and there...etc. "light my Fire" by the DOORS is also a pretty cool tune to play on acoustic. "Night Moves" by Bob Seger is a nice one. Jim Croce has some fun playing tunes also. The kind of music you like might help with the suggestions. My deal when playing acoustic is more of a get people moving with the tune/ jumping around, helping out with chorus etc...you know a "party" atmosphere. My style isnt...ok everyone quiet down and listen to this guys playing...I am no James Taylor thats for sure. Gotta work with what you got you know?
