My first acoustic was a Sigma DM-1 which was pretty much a copy from a Marin DM. I still have that guitar, and I always thought it sounded good, but several of the tuning pegs broke off a few years ago and I've been to lazy to fix it.

I've got a Sigma DM-3 which I really like. I played a used D-18 and although it played slightly better, it didn't sound any different to my ears. My guitar teacher also picked it up (this guy has a Martin D-35) and said he really liked it. It also has a nice big neck which I like, since it makes going from acoustic to my SG easier. There are nicer sounding acoustics out there, but to me this thing is amazing. My only complaint is that the tuners are garbadge.

Good ole C. F. Sigma has been doing it right. Glad he found time to eventually branch off the company to found Martin Guitars, to satisfy those crazy traditionalists that like solid wood more than paris hilton.

I did see a really cool vintage Sigma (don't laugh; read on) on eBay recently. I could shoot myself for not bidding on it. It was an almost mint D-45 (not the more common D-41) copy, complete with the 45-style C.F. MARTIN logo down the headstock in inlaid abalone. It had the correct Waverly style butterbean tuners, diamond volute, etc. There was no indication that it was a Sigma other than the the Sigma logo burned into the inside back center strip. All solid wood, too. That thing is as close to a real D-45 as you're ever likely to see, and it went for only $800. I've never seen one like it, but am certainly keeping an eye peeled.
