Members JvK Posted June 20, 2006 Members Posted June 20, 2006 Picked one up just recently and noticed they already moved the price $100. Wouldn't think the demand for these to be very high. Nice instrument, if this will be the norm for build quality fromChina I think it will be hard for mass producers to compete. Joe
Members Pascal Posted June 20, 2006 Members Posted June 20, 2006 I think the demand is actually quite high.Gypsy Jazz is kind of fashionable these days... it is currently experiencing a major revival all over the world, especially in the UK, Germany, Holland, and most of all probably, France. You litterally find Gitane guitars in every store in France (together with other cheap alternatives like Aria's MM and Rudy Larna). The number of luthiers building Selmer copies has increased in the last years, with quite a few reknown builders (Dupont, Gallato, Dell'Arte...) now having low-cost guitars built overseas to keep up with the demand.... a few new brands appeared too (Manouche guitars...). There are now Gyspsy Jazz festivals and workshops in every European country, and a few ones in the States too...Hell, I bought a Selmer copy too, so I won't criticize. And yes, I do agree, Gitane guitars are really great value for money.
Members EvilTwin Posted June 20, 2006 Members Posted June 20, 2006 They'll charge what they can get for it. The Gitanes seem to warrant that kind of cash, imo. Good guitars. I bought a Cordoba Gitano petite bouche from GC a few months ago. They had a whole shipment of 'em come in, and they were gone in a week. Gypsy jazz is definitely experiencing a renaissance.
