Members tkris Posted June 25, 2006 Members Posted June 25, 2006 just watched "heart of gold," the neil young concert film, shot at the ryman auditorium in nashville. very cool movie, with wonderful music, plus the guitars are awesome. neil has some very well-worn old acoustic guitars, mostly martins i believe, including hank williams old guitar. if you haven't seen it, check it out.
Members Jessz1 Posted June 25, 2006 Members Posted June 25, 2006 Yeah I got it too. Very cool that they included a little infor about his guitars. I was interested in his 12. He plays it on the live rust dvd and I thought it was a taylor but I wasn't sure. :thu:

Members Tony Burns Posted June 26, 2006 Members Posted June 26, 2006 I hope its better than that anti war piece of junk CD he made , that was terrible - Ive always been a Neil young fan , but that was one of the worst cd's ever made . Is the movie more or less like a concert , i remember seeing him live in around the late 70's in Buffalo at Memorial Auditorium , the air was so thick with ( you know ) it was hard to see across the Aud - that concert was one of my all time favorites ! Back then a good seat was about 8 bucks ! They keep saying if you can remember the seventies you probably werent there ! , or was I ?
Members fender5788 Posted June 26, 2006 Members Posted June 26, 2006 It is like a concert, it opens kinda introducing everyone and people talking. Then it goes into the concert. If you are a huge Neil fan like me it's very touching to see and hear.
Members tkris Posted June 26, 2006 Author Members Posted June 26, 2006 It's a straight concert film -- most of the songs are from his Prairie Wind CD, which he wrote in about two weeks while awaiting surgery to remove a brain aneurysm. the songs are reflective, nostalgic, about family and love. the staging is simple, and he's surrounded by his friends -- these great musicians, including emmylou harris, spooner oldham, etc. the director is jonathan demme, who also shot the great talking heads concert movie, "stop making sense."

If you look in the aknowledgemets on the DVD, it says thanks to Taylor guitars.

And I too am a Neil Young fan.
Members valleyguy Posted June 26, 2006 Members Posted June 26, 2006 I'm a big Neil Young fan, but only of his acoustic work. This DVD is awesome, wonderful concert of his acoustic stuff. Also has a quick recap of his guitars (that could have been longer!). Great renditions of Comes a Time and I am a Child, as well as others. I'd highly recommend the DVD for those acoustic fans. A couple of complaints, though. Too many ads at the beginning of the DVD, first one I've bought with commercials. Neil getting a little too commercial? There is also no insert, or list of songs.
