Members LiveMusic Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 In the thread where becomingfinal and his band had the promoter who signed the screwball deal, she got stuck with owing the bar $600. Good news is she gets two bottles of Johnny Walker Blue out of the deal. So, I've never heard of Blue. Black, yes, but Blue, no. It costs like $200 a bottle? What the hell is that all about? Does it have gold in it? Got me to thinking about really high-priced booze. Do you know of any that are way over-priced. Well, actually, to me, anything over double the average cost for a bottle of booze or a beer would be way too much for me. But maybe not. Do you know of any that you think... it's worth it? Mind you, this is coming from a guy who regularly drinks the cheapest dollar beer he can find. Or if it's booze, the low end. Hell I bought some rum recently, Bacardi Gold I think it was. Didn't even have a hangover. And it was not expensive at all.
Members JasmineTea Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 Laphroaig One thing about Laphroaig, no matter what you've had before, you're not ready for it. But after you get started with a glass, you end up loving the stuff. Drink it with plenty of ice. About $45 a bottle.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 there are some top shelf scotch's (scotchi?) that are way up there in price... i don't get the JW blue thing... granted i've never had it, but i feel like every JW i drink tastes the same basicall... i dunno how i feel about a $200 bottle of blended scotch. i can't remember who it was, but one of the bigger distilleries over yonder in scotland sold some bottles of way aged stuff, we're talking 50+ years... they sold some of it bottled, but they had an event where they sold it by the glass for a few hundred bucks/glass...
Members smokiee Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 Apparently the Blue Label is at the top of the Johnnie Wlaker line, the rarest blend. Dunno bout the taste though. Want expensive booze, you should try Absinth (or Absinthe). Some call it the green fairy. It retails for just a tad above $200 for a litre bottle. 68% alcohol! They say you can go crazy drinking this emerald green stuff. http://www.absinth.com/ buy it here!! Put you guitar in a safe place b4 drinking.. just a precaution hehehh
Members JasmineTea Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 Vincent Van Gogh drank absinthe. Hmm..

Members tiger roach Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 I am happy with scotch in the $20-$40 range. I want to try the Blue someday though. People say that single malts are the way to go for high-dollar scotch, but then others swear by the Blue...

Members Freeman Keller Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 I was on a ski trip a couple of years ago and we hiked down under a glacier. We chipped off some ice from the top of the snow cave, and that evening had 15 year old Laphroaig with ten thousand year old ice
Members LiveMusic Posted June 27, 2006 Author Members Posted June 27, 2006 How do you pronounce Laphroaig? NEVER MIND... it's (La-froyg).
Members thatsbunk Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 the most expensive booze for me was the $10/1.75 liter vodka that ultimately ended me up in rehab (~20K for 28 days... that's a lot of martins)
Members Dead Skunk Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 I've had Johnny Walker Blue. It was OK, better than the Red for sure. Not worth the $40 per glass on the tab.
Members 0rbitz9 Posted June 27, 2006 Members Posted June 27, 2006 I enjoy single malt scotch pretty frequently, and have tasted some extremely old and expensive ones. It's always a privilege to be able to sample these. With a lot of the ones I've sampled recently, I haven't been completely amazed. When a whisky has been aged in casks for 25 or 30 years, it's very easy for the intense flavours imparted by the barrel aging to overpower the subtleties in the whisky itself. A lot of times I'm happier just to drink the more affordable 10 to 15 year old offerings. If you are willing to spend a couple hundred on an old bottle of scotch, I would recommend going for the more powerful offerings from Islay that can withstand the extended barrel aging. The 30 year old whisky from Laphroag is quite a walloping drink.
Members cdp Posted June 28, 2006 Members Posted June 28, 2006 Drumroll please......................................................................... Whichever booze you accidentally spill is the most expensive. Thread over.
Members Greymuzzle Posted June 28, 2006 Members Posted June 28, 2006 I'm a total newbie on guitars, and this forum. But on drink, well I'm Irish.Nuff said. The drink is spelt "whiskEy" The fact that Scottish can't even spell it shows they'll never make the best of it. Seriously though the finest whiskey in the world is very probably one of the top of the range Middletons' an Irish. You need a mortgage for a case of it, but well worth living in a tent. The Scotch Malt Whiskey Club provides cask strength offerings of the finest, and are even releasing a Glenmorangie, the first time that Distillery has done so. It's summer now so that makes it time for Dalwhinnie in my book I'm sorry for those of you who put ice in your whiskey. It will melt very quickly when you go to hell for doing so. Above really Now Guitars. This thread, on this forum, brought back to me the Single Malt Whiskey guitars which Fylde make from reclaimed timber from malt whiskey vats. I'm sure they smell great, but has anybody heard or played one? Genuinely curious...

So a friend of mine has a personalize license plate that says "WE SKI" . He pulls into a little gas station in Oregon and the proprietor looks at the back of the car and says "I'd never trust anyone who couldn't spell 'Whisky' "
Members egtact Posted June 28, 2006 Members Posted June 28, 2006 I always thought it was "whisky" in 'Merican. Makers Mark is my personal poison. It's just so much kinder to you the next day than say, Wild Turkey, but the Turkey is a much better fighting whisky as it is rather clean upon regurgitation.

My favorite, mainly because I couldn't afford more expensive brands was Glenlivet. Excellent stuff. Smooth as silk and all you needed was a glass. My tastes grew over the years from blended Scotches that were really cheap, Cutty, Black and White up through JW Red label to green and Black, among others. Eventually I changed from to single and landed on Glenlevit. I have to agree that it should be against the law to mix Scotch with anything or to put ice or water in the same glass. Of course I no longer drink anything, which is a personal choice I made several years ago, but if I ever had a weakness for any alcoholic beverage it was Scotch. RT1
Members Cldplytkmn Posted June 28, 2006 Members Posted June 28, 2006 i like glenlivet as well... i agree about the mixing, although i've had times of weakness when i've mixed cutty and coke... but hey, the beatles drank scotch and coke, so can i
Members recordingtrack1 Posted June 29, 2006 Members Posted June 29, 2006 Hey Clyp. I can't lie about it. I've done it too, on a few occassions. I always tried to "class" my way around it by not actually mixing the Scotch. What me and my buddies did sometimes was shot glass the Scotch and chase it with Coke. We usually did this when there were girls around who we, . . well you know . . . Shamefully, RT:eek:
