Members naterz Posted July 2, 2006 Members Posted July 2, 2006 Hi all First of all I'm excited about the purchase as I've had my eyes on a D-03 for a long time now. My first question is does a sunburst finish affect the tone at all? If so how much? If you'd like to see it, check out the completed listing here: http://cgi.ebay.com/1999-Larrivee-D-03-Rare-Sunburst-Finish_W0QQitemZ180001998790QQihZ008QQcategoryZ2385QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem You will need an eBay account to view the listing. This cost $680 with shipping. It's a 1999 model with bone saddle. Says it's excellent condition. What do you guys think? Did I pay a little too much? I do like the sunburst a lot. Haven't played it yet. Hope it gets here soon. Comments welcome! Nathan
Members studyscoot Posted July 2, 2006 Members Posted July 2, 2006 I think you did pretty good. Thats a cool larrivee, and the 03 series sounds awesome.

As for the finish/tone question, the dye has a pretty minimal mass, so I don't think there would be a significant impact on the tonal response. Much less so that the difference between full gloss and minimal matte. It's almost entirely a matter of keeping the mass to a minimum... Michael
Members SongMan Posted July 3, 2006 Members Posted July 3, 2006 Congrads on this guitar. The sunbust makes this guitar very rare and special. I think you did good on the price.enjoy!
Members Fstpicker Posted July 3, 2006 Members Posted July 3, 2006 You got a very good deal for a very rare guitar. First one I've ever heard of and seen! Great price IMO. Jeff
Members hammergjh Posted July 3, 2006 Members Posted July 3, 2006 That sounds like a good deal. I just picked up the D03R. It is a very solid, beautifully made acoustic. Paid a grand for it, so, it's nice to see it will hold its value pretty well.
Members naterz Posted July 3, 2006 Author Members Posted July 3, 2006 Thanks to everyone for their comments. I notice the D-03s go around $500 - $600 or so on eBay. This one had a bid of barely over $500 with the reserve not met up to about 14 seconds left in the auction when I bid $650. So I barely just met the reserve, I guess it was $650. It also had a buy-it-now of $700. If she plays & sounds as good as she looks I'll be happy. Nathan
Members Cldplytkmn Posted July 3, 2006 Members Posted July 3, 2006 if i'd have been shopping for a larrivee, i'd have bought that one in a heartbeat... i'd say you did real well on the price. the burst finish SHOULDN'T be any thicker than a normal finish, so you really shouldn't notice any difference in tone. You'll probably see more fingerprints though...
