Hi all

First of all I'm excited about the purchase as I've had my eyes on a D-03 for a long time now.

My first question is does a sunburst finish affect the tone at all? If so how much?

If you'd like to see it, check out the completed listing here:

You will need an eBay account to view the listing.

This cost $680 with shipping. It's a 1999 model with bone saddle. Says it's excellent condition. What do you guys think? Did I pay a little too much? I do like the sunburst a lot.

Haven't played it yet. Hope it gets here soon.

Comments welcome!

Great score. I have a D03 on the way as well (the current limited sapele). As for the finish/tone question, the dye has a pretty minimal mass, so I don't think there would be a significant impact on the tonal response. Much less so that the difference between full gloss and minimal matte. It's almost entirely a matter of keeping the mass to a minimum...

That sounds like a good deal. I just picked up the D03R. It is a very solid, beautifully made acoustic. Paid a grand for it, so, it's nice to see it will hold its value pretty well.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I notice the D-03s go around $500 - $600 or so on eBay.

This one had a bid of barely over $500 with the reserve not met up to about 14 seconds left in the auction when I bid $650. So I barely just met the reserve, I guess it was $650.

It also had a buy-it-now of $700.

If she plays & sounds as good as she looks I'll be happy.

if i'd have been shopping for a larrivee, i'd have bought that one in a heartbeat... i'd say you did real well on the price.

the burst finish SHOULDN'T be any thicker than a normal finish, so you really shouldn't notice any difference in tone. You'll probably see more fingerprints though...
