Members LiveMusic Posted July 3, 2006 Members Posted July 3, 2006 No idea what possessed me. Found a mint condition, barely played, essentially brand new Carvin Cobalt 980T on Ebay. Bidding was at $435. With case, this would cost $800 new from Carvin. I thought, hmmm, I'll bid, say, $500. I waited till last minute. It went nuts and bidding hit and ended at $530. So, some guy has a nice guitar at a good price. I didn't need this guitar at all. Can't even afford it right now. So, glad I didn't get it. But it struck me that I broke my own rule... and that is, if I don't really need something, a great deal on something used is 50% of new value or less. In my opinion, people pay too much for used stuff, in general. I think Ebay has increased the value of used stuff. What do YOU consider a great deal on something you do not need? Like someone has a guitar for sale, he needs money, you don't need it.
Members thatsbunk Posted July 3, 2006 Members Posted July 3, 2006 i don't think you can really get a good deal on anything from ebay. if you're going to expose a product to more potential buyers, the price will be driven up. ebay is great imo if your selling something.I sold a mandolin about 8 months ago for $950 that a local buyer wanted to offer me about $300 for. in retrospect if i sold the mando to the guy for $300, he would have gotten the great deal.
