Hello,

I am interested in a LR Baggs Para DI, and like its features. Seem's like people either LOVE this unit or HATE it. Is there anything else on the market like this? Whats an alternative to it?

I am gonna try an AC-175 from Carvin and people on the Carvin boards say its a great guitar when you use a preamp with it. Some extra EQ never hurts.

Anyone try a Tech21 Acoustic DI-???

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Just looking for something that is a Direct box and some sort of EQ.

Thanks All!!!

What's not to like about the Para DI?

Are there more expensive units out there that will do more - sure but in its price range it is a good piece of kit.

It's rugged; has a good parametric equalizer; phase inversion; phantom power; notch filter; adjustable gain AND it's quiet.

What else are you looking for?

Just wanna know what my options are thats all-

I'll most likely get a Para/DI. I am gonna try a friends really soon when I get the time. Plus I am waiting for the guitar to arrive.

Hang around - you'll get contrary opinions I'm sure.

Usually someone will recommend a $$$$ piece of studio gear second hand.

Oh, and someone will recommend you look at the Aura - actually not a bad idea. ;)

Hey,

I was wondering about the Aura-

They can do some custom settings if you send your own guitar in to them- but I am not really into that. I looked at the site to see if they had my guitar listed and they dont at the moment.

Seem's like a cool unit though.

LR Baggs Para DI is the Best, Tech 21 Sans Amp Acoustic DI is good, if you wanna go cheap,

Behringer has a unit for 39 bucks that incorporates the best of both units ,AD21.

Jim

PS- Go with the Baggs, a real workhorse

The Carvin AC175 has active electronics, so you don't really need something as powerful as the ParaDI.

The questions you need to ask are:

1. What type of amp / speaker system will you be using?

2. Does the guitar's sound need to be 'cleaned up'?

If you are going direct into a PA system, then you'll want some kind of DI box with an XLR balanced output.

Depending on how the guitar sounds, you may also like to have to some kind of further processing or eq. This could be as simple as the parametric eq on the Para DI, or something more sophistocated like the Fishman Aura, or a Zoom A2.1u.

The Tech21 SansAmp (and the Behringer ADI21) tend to overdrive when driven with active electronics - you'll need to keep the guitar's output level way down. I tried both on my dreadnaught and didn't like either (I ended up using the ADI21 in bypass mode as a raw DI box) - you may have better results with a thinline.

The Fishman Aura is an excellent DI - as long as there is an 'image' for your exact model of guitar. Some guitars sound similar enough to another that good results can be had. Unfortunately this was not the case for my Takamine, since the palathetic pickup has it's own sound flavour, and the active electronics in the guitar probably aren't helping. I'm also too cheap to have a custom image made. :)

So far I'm still using the ADI21 in bypass mode, but I'm thinking of trying out either a Zoom A2.1u or just a tube compressor / DI.

Hey All,

Well- The AC-175 will be arriving any day now. I am not sure how hot the pickup is in it yet. I will give it a try when it shows up.

I will be using the guitar right into the PA- so some sort of direct box will be needed for sure. The guy's around the Carvin boards say the guitar can use a bit of added EQ.

Thanks for your help so far!
