Members martingibson70 Posted July 7, 2006 Author Members Posted July 7, 2006 BTW: This recording is 5 years old and less than 10 people have ever heard it.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 some good guitar work in there... by the way, you've got a couple minutes of dead air at the end of the file...
Members martingibson70 Posted July 7, 2006 Author Members Posted July 7, 2006 Dead minutes...I had just gotten my DAW and I was still learning how to use it. Do you have any new songs out there?
Members recordingtrack1 Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 Excellent. I had a real hard time finding the acoustic guitar parts LOL. Just kidding. What the heck, it is a good song. Reminds me of the power bands from back in the day. I could hear the likes of Ronnie James Dio (and others) in there, I think. Couple of humble observations: First, I really liked the neck tone on the initial guitar parts. Sounded like a Les Paul with a Seymour on the neck to me. Second, There were three little Portamento parts right together on the Synth that REALLY worked well. However, I never heard them again. I would have liked to have heard them at least one more time. Maybe even swooping back UP. Third, if you are the singer, You can really go! Excellent job. Right on pitch and good tone in your voice. Fourth (and all of this is just my opinion, mind you) the snare needed to be a BIGGER power snare like a big old Phil Collins Gated snare. Good job! RT1:cool:
Members Cldplytkmn Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 i was writing and playing real steady until a few weeks ago... didn't record anything because i'm having a bit of an issue with my USB interface giving me alot of static and 'clipping' or should i say 'clippitying' i'd love to get it resolved and throw up some new stuff (some of it is half decent), ,just have to get the gumption up to figure out the problem...

Members martingibson70 Posted July 7, 2006 Author Members Posted July 7, 2006 recordingtrack1, thanks for the feedback and compliments. The drums were from a Boss DR770. I have just a little control over how they sound. Actually, there is my martin D28 in there. I started with the drums while singing the riff in my head so that I could change the drums patterns. Then I added the martin guitar riff, which got lost in the mix, added bass, vocals, then leads. I wish I could sing like that. That is my friend and co-worker, we're teachers. When I write with him we end up with a Bad Company kind of thing. recordingtrack1, this site has another recording of a song called Valentine that is really road housey blues/rock. Listen for the feel like makin love riff. Clippity, the song I meant to post for you is called Bleed. http://www.putfile.com/martingibson70 Really appreciate you listening. Like I said we're just teachers that go thru "rockstar" phases and we're currently not playing so nobody is hearing these songs. Thanks again.
Members martingibson70 Posted July 7, 2006 Author Members Posted July 7, 2006 Clippity, tech problems suck. As if it isn't enough to write and play, you have to be your own producer and engineer. But don't let to much time pass before you fix the bug. You'll get what I call "creatively constipated". This happens when you hold something in to long and then when you need to unload, you can't. It's very uncomfortable.

Members martingibson70 Posted July 7, 2006 Author Members Posted July 7, 2006 What are BGV's? I had a hard time with this one. We originally had some congas throughout. Man! They just didn't work, and I love congas. Congas were my cow bell for a while (you know...I've got a fever and the only cure is more cowbell. For me it was congas.) I'm glad that this song appealed more to you.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 the BackGround Vocal track... congas are touch and go for me... as are all hand percussion... they've been done wrong so many times that i think about congas and just can't jive with em... even though a well written percussion part can add alot... it can kill a whole song.
Members kwakatak Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 Great thread! I'm still a beginner with regards to recording/mixing and songwriting but you guys are kicking out some great ideas!
Members d03nut Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 It's very late at night here.......I was trying to surf/post with my eyes half-open (always look at the glass half-full I say). Then I stumbled onto your thread -and your song. I'm up now. I mean that in a good way. I needed a boost. Certainly has a vibe to it that I like. It actually conjured up "images" from some concert footage from the 70's and early 80's in my mind's eye. Somehow I feel like I have to thank you MartyGib 'cause you made me feel good....
Members martingibson70 Posted July 7, 2006 Author Members Posted July 7, 2006 d03nut, your post was the first thing I read this morning. Thanks very much. As I mentioned before, we're not performing currently and these songs are collecting dust on my IPOD and computer. Besides, a good response in this forum is more meaningful than the drunken/token applause of an anonymous bar audience who are just putting up with our originals so that the can hear us play Voodoo Chile and Sweet Caroline.
