Here is what I was told was done to my guitar which was sent back to the factory for a likely neck problem or truss rod problem. Here is what they did,the truss nut worked for me too, but the whole neck moved when it did, They admit it does not react like normal, string gauge should have nothing to do with this. Never had a problem with the neck heel moving.

Jim

The repairman has sealed up the heel, it should not move anymore. The nut is a bit low so he is repairing it. The truss nut works for us, though with these extra light strings it needs more loosening or tightening than we are used to. The strings put so little tension on the neck that it does not react like normal, but it is not defective. He is setting up the guitar to our shop specs & then we will ship it back.

It sounds like they reglued your neck, installed a new nut and set it up with light strings (.012 - .053). Light strings are standard on their guitars from the factory.

Hud,

I was told they left the xtra lite strings on that I use. I don't understand why they would reglue my neck, it was never unglued

I thought the neck pulled away from the body. I figured that they reset it. That would involve removing it, cleaning up the joint and regluing it.

OK, I misunderstood you but now it makes sense. Light strings barely placed any pressure on the truss rod of my RD20. In fact, the truss rod was a little too loose for my taste. Extra light strings probably places zero pressure on the truss rod. It all makes sense now.

Hud,

Did that cause your neck to move all over the place, the truss rod was tight for 10 monthes, then it started acting weird

No Jim. I went with mediums (.013 - .056) and the entire guitar seemed to respond better (truss rod tension, action and tone).

The joint was sealed up because there was a seperation. No new nut.

Tom,

Why was the heel/neck joint area sealed up? Did you put a new nut in?

Jim

The

truss rod works fine for us, no sign of it being broken. The heel/neck joint is

the area sealed up. The work will not be shoddy.

Tom,

I believe that the truss rod is broken. I adjusted it just a bit when

I first put on the xtra lite strings. That is the problem I have been having, no

relief, It worked great for ten monthes, There was a lot of resistance to

turning the adjustor the 1st time I adjusted it last Sept, now it just spins

around like it is not connected. I agree the guitar needs a new nut, it was dug

into too deeply, if I get a shoddy job, and the truss rod still doesn't give the

neck relief, it's going back to you

Jim

PS- Please make sure it's fixed, What do you mean, he sealed the heel up,

never a problem there, are you talking about the cracks on the sides of the neck

joint, they were always there
