Members -todgemistro- Posted July 5, 2006 Members Posted July 5, 2006 I'm after a new set of strings, as one of mines just snapped, and they have gone dull now anyway so I might aswell replace the whole lot. Which brand do you recommend? All I know is that I want 11s with a wound G, and I want a long lasting bright tone, without being too expensive. Cheers for any help
Members javaCat Posted July 5, 2006 Members Posted July 5, 2006 I had martins on mine, sounded fine for all of 2 days. I got some dadarios, uncoated, just regular old strings sound great now, theyve already outlasted the martins. Plus theyre cheap.
Members -todgemistro- Posted July 5, 2006 Author Members Posted July 5, 2006 Cool thanks. I use d'addarios on my electrics and love em.
Members babablowfish Posted July 5, 2006 Members Posted July 5, 2006 Martin Phosphor Bronze strings are my personal favorite. You can keep your strings sounding "fresh" a lot longer by using FastFret by ghs. Also you will prolong the life of your strings by washing your hands before playing. Do both each time you play and those strings will last a hell of a lot longer.
Members aeschylus Posted July 5, 2006 Members Posted July 5, 2006 D'Addario EJ's are probably the best. I find Martins muddy in the bass department.
Members Hudman Posted July 5, 2006 Members Posted July 5, 2006 I was a lifetime D'Addario EJ16 user until I tried Martin SP Phosphor Bronze strings. I really like them a lot.
Members tulefog Posted July 5, 2006 Members Posted July 5, 2006 Strings are cheap. You should try several and find what works best for you.
Members axe-man48 Posted July 6, 2006 Members Posted July 6, 2006 Phospher Bronze are brighter than just bronze, but don't lasst as long. Coated strings last long and tend to be bright. D'addario EXP's are good and not too expensive.
Members bigby Posted July 6, 2006 Members Posted July 6, 2006 I've always used Martins. Just tried the new Martin PB SP+ extended life...very nice strings..
Members alphasports Posted July 6, 2006 Members Posted July 6, 2006 I used Martin Marquis forever until my luthier recommended I try Elixir coated strings for a recent reset/tuneup on both my HD-28 and SP000-16R. They are more expensive but last 4x as long so end up actually being cheaper. Sound is boomy, bassy, and clear. I no longer use the Martin strings due to inconsistencies I've encountered, particularly in the G.

Members WaveRay Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 My HD-28V had Martin SP's on when I bought it. I put on some of those Martin Clapton thingys but didn't like them. Went back to the factory phospher Bronze MSP4200's and fell back in love with the guitar. If they wear out in two days, I'll change em. No big deal. The sound I want on that particular guitar is worth it. I can see using different strings on different guitars. I haven't found a favorite on my 12 string yet, still trying different ones.
Members recordingtrack1 Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 Elixir Nanowebs. Can't stand polywebs.Sometimes Martin PB's, depending on what kind of mood I am in when I visit my buddie's guitar store. He carries Pearse strings now but I have yet to buy a set. Maybe next time. RT1
Members thatsbunk Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 dr phosphor bronze mediums work for me.
Members theGOOCH Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 I like Martin SP, but I usually get the 80/20s Not just because they're a buck cheaper, I just like the way they sound
Members recordingtrack1 Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 nothin' wrong with saving a buck! RT:thu:
