Was not nearly so terrifying this time, just because I knew it could be done and I wouldn't freak. It went very well...played three originals, two of which I didn't do a week ago at my debut. Now I'm thinking of collaborators...a co-worker of mine is a fiddle player and I think she wants to see how this would work (I "hear" a fiddle or something else bowed like a cello or viola in many of the things I create). She also sings...and now, my 13-yr-old daughter wants to learn bass...! How cool is that!
Members Sweb Posted July 10, 2006 Members Posted July 10, 2006 My boy is 12 and plays a pretty mean violin after 5 years of lessons. I just bought him an electric violin and that really boosted his eyebrows. I've written a couple accompaniments that he is getting down. He sight reads, which means I have to put the pieces in standard notation, but he's beginning to hear music in his head and getting away from strictly reading it. It's a lot of fun for him and I get a real kick out of doing something other than being just a Dad to him. Sort of levels the playing field between us where his input is based upon his own experiences. If your daughter wants to get involved by all means available help her. Congrats on the 2nd open mic. Now you'll begin to relax and the creativity comes easier.
