Members guit30 Posted July 15, 2006 Members Posted July 15, 2006 Ok, What next? I really loved the Alvarez Rd20s, so that would be a possibility, here are others Aria AD series(One on order, can change) Blueridge Br40 or Br 140 Cobalt 250Jim
Members babablowfish Posted July 15, 2006 Members Posted July 15, 2006 Forgive me if I missed something or misconstrued what you have posted prevously, but didn't you get royally screwed by Alvarez? And now you are considering buying another? I don't get it. If I went through the nightmare you wrote about it would be a cold day in hell before I would buy another. Anyway, I can recommend the Parkwood PW340FM Jumbo. Also, the Art & Lutherie and Simon & Patrick Cedars I tried were nice. Guilds are good too. Good luck.
Members kwakatak Posted July 15, 2006 Members Posted July 15, 2006 Didn't you just order an Aria AD-something?
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted July 15, 2006 Members Posted July 15, 2006 Look for the best used Guild you can afford...you'll be a VERY happy camper!
Members guit30 Posted July 16, 2006 Author Members Posted July 16, 2006 The reason that I am still considering the Alvarez is that they have the most comfortable neck that I've ever used, The Aria AD28 that I ordered looks like a clone of it, same exact neck, $210 (it is d/ced , so no customer support at all) I was happy to get paid $125 for the Alvarez from the dealer who I will never visit again, I could tell by the look on his face that he was very unhappy to be putting out money for damaged goods, deep down, he knew there was something wrong with it, He just wouldn't admit it it, cause Kruska and his guitar techs said it was fine even though it was buzzing like crazy.I have only had trouble with 1 acoustic guitar in all of my life(this one), what's the chance of it happening again, I never hear of any Alvarez complaints, well a few, but all guitars(martins and taylors too) get problems sometimes. Don't you guys remember all of the guitars that I went thru to find a comfortable neck, I have bad cervical Stenosis and it is very painful for me to play, I can play at the most for 30 minutes at a time. The Aria from music123 would not be available til aug 7. For me their track record of delivering the right product ain't too good. Any feedback would be helpful as an alternative to the Alvarez. Donk loves his AD80 and thinks the neck would be great for me, it looks exactly the same.God BlessJIm

I would DEFINITELY do my business with another shop, though!
Members guit30 Posted July 17, 2006 Author Members Posted July 17, 2006 Definitely, Deluca's is history. I asked Musician's Friend how they would have handled it and they said they would have sent me a sticker to send the guitar back to them and sent me another instrument, The lady said we are here to please customers, if Alvarez wants to use our catalog, they have to please our customers, we are not here to cow tow to distributors. So, if I get an Alvarez, it will ne MF or maybe Ebay, also considering Blueridge BR-140 from Maury's musicJimPS- Saw a used Guild at GC today, but it was $539 and reeked of smoke , plus it was a cutaway, looking for a dread, it had a nice neck
Members guit30 Posted July 17, 2006 Author Members Posted July 17, 2006 Well, The poll seems to be split between Blueridge and Alvarez, anyspecific models people likeJim
Members kwakatak Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 I can're really comment because the only brand I've tried from your list was Alvarez and frankly each one I've tried has left me unimpressed with regards to workmanship and tone. Do you have a price range or any other requirement that would allow you to consider a write-in?
Members babablowfish Posted July 18, 2006 Members Posted July 18, 2006 Have you tried the Art & Lutherie or the Simon & Patrick Cedars? Very comfortable neck and very warm sound.
Members guit30 Posted July 18, 2006 Author Members Posted July 18, 2006 No I haven't , none in areaThanksJim
Members guit30 Posted July 18, 2006 Author Members Posted July 18, 2006 Thanks for the votes, things are getting even Have a great day Jim
Members kwakatak Posted July 18, 2006 Members Posted July 18, 2006 I'm not sure what model it was, but I once tried a Washburn dread that was pretty nice and affordable. I think the tag said $400-$450 or something like that. It wasn't a D-10S either because it had that funky-looking butterfly bridge that kind of gave it a Gibson look. I know you're pretty specific about the neck profile, but I can't recall the particulars since it was over a year and a half ago. Maybe it was one of these? D46S Southwest series Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but in my search for a replacement to my Takamine I kind of stopped looking around when I found out about Larriv
