Members Dave W. Posted July 14, 2006 Members Posted July 14, 2006 Boy, that's sad to see, I loved that guy, he could really play.
Members Etienne Rambert Posted July 14, 2006 Members Posted July 14, 2006 He's an old guy, trying to make a few bucks. So he's put out his own line of git-boxes. I don't think it's sad. Heck, he could be out autographing Ovations. Then some folks around here would really be howling at the moon. Maybe these are really nice guitars. They've got the tail pieces with pegs, just like guitars that sell for 2 or 3 thousand dollars. He plays it in when he gigs at Carnegie Hall.
Frets99 Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 I don't think it's sad. This is an old man who could play the lick {censored} out of any guitar he had his hands on. He's still making a living. Still getting along getting along. I didn't post this as a joke. I have no idea how good of a guitar it is but he's certainly a hero of mine and if I find one of those, I'll play it!
Members M-1 Fan Posted July 14, 2006 Members Posted July 14, 2006 So what kind was that, and what were those stickies on the fingerboard?
Members bigmo66 Posted July 14, 2006 Members Posted July 14, 2006 Yeah, you don't get "pegs" on those cheap $1500 guitars! Roy is a good Ol Boy and a good picker, but you have to wonder if some of these guys are really into instruments and just completely faking it or are they totally oblivious as to what a fine guitar is? Both I reckon.

Both I reckon. I just recently came from KY and the old boys there are pretty much up on quality - as I knew them. All in their waning years but they can hold their own with their bretheren. They don't spend a lot of time talking it up. They just get together to play and not one of those old farmers owned less than the likes of a D-45 - they love that shiny stuff. RJ Reynolds payed them well for their tobacco crops.
Members D-28 Posted July 14, 2006 Members Posted July 14, 2006 I saw Roy play at Harrah's casino in North Tahoe in the mid 70's.It was a solo show. The curtain opened and there was every stringed instrument known to man, lined up on their stands, tuned and ready to go. Roy walked out, played each of them, sometimes behind his back, sometimes with his mouth, he told jokes and had the whole audience crying with laughter. This show inspired me to learn how to play guitar.I don't know what his deal is now, but he can still probably play WAY better than anybody here.
Frets99 Posted July 15, 2006 Author Posted July 15, 2006 This is his website. Roy Clark Yeah, like the guys who've seen him play. He's an amazing, accomplished and versatile guitarist and then some. He could put on a show and had a hell of a sense of humor. Just a good guy with unbelievable talent!

Everyone else is selling guitars, why not one of the best country guitar players of all time? He forgot more about playing than Esteban knows. I bet he can still play circles around most people. Keep on rolling Roy.

If he were doing a Martin or Talyor commercial I would feel a lot better. I felt the same way when I saw Kenny Rogers selling guitar method books on the 2 AM movie channel years ago.

Who said he "needs" to sell guitars? Don't feel bad for Roy. He's making good money selling those guitars.
Members guit30 Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 I'm surprised that Martin or Gibson hasn't made a Roy Clark signature. Picked up a cheap Squier tele today and wanted to plug it in at GC. Uh OhJIm

Rather do that than be a nine-to-fiver who sits around and knocks a man for selling guitars. If I were in the market for a steel-string, I'd give it a look!

If you are talking to me, I put in 60 some hours a week in my small printing business. So does that qualify me to feel sad that one of my guitar hero's is hawking cheap guitars? I didn't say I felt sorry for him, and I sure as hell am not knocking him. If I live long enough to see Tommy Emmanual doing the same thing in 30 years, I'll feel the same way about that.
Frets99 Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 Roy Clark info Hey, if Roy says it's as good as a $2000 guitar.... well maybe he's exagerating but I'll bet it sounds and plays well. I don't think he'd be associated with a truly cheap guitar.
Members guit30 Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 Probably made by Copley, do a lot of Nashville sigsJim
Members Queequeg Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 yes, I thought this was sad to see a brilliant musician and a quick wit in decline and perhaps suffering from a mild form of senile dementia. He's lost some command of his faculties. yeah, kind of sad.
Members Big Blue Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 For someone who is in the market for a $200 guitar this will probably be "just as good" as a $2000 guitar. You dont need ebony fretboards and BRW backs and solid tops to have a decent sounding guitar! When Roy started, like Glen Campbell, etc etc he would probably given anything to get a guitar as good as this one he is selling. Probably started on a shoebox with rubberbands etc etc. SO its probably as good a 200 guitar as there is. It would be WRONG if he were selling a $200 guitar for $2000 just because his name is on i!!!! Maybe he is thinking that by promoting this with his name there will be many folks that will get started for $200 and they will enjoy playing as much as everyone says they do in this forum. Some grandma out there has a grandson who would like to have a guitar and she would get him one except she belives its gonna cost 2K for a playable guitar. Now Roy tells her...hey you can get one for your grandson for only $200. She gets it...the grand kid loves it...and he plays forever till he dies. I think Roy deserves some credit for not being a "Namebrand Snob"
Members Big Blue Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 CORRECTION The thing is Acoustic Electric cutaway w/ bag for $169.00 pretty good price! $200 is for the guitar / bag/ song book/ training course / and DVD !!!! I dont think Roy is scamming ANYONE !!!!!!!!!
