Members Jack is Awesome Posted July 25, 2006 Members Posted July 25, 2006 So, recently I have been moving between playing styles, From Nick Drake style picking to Michael Hedges tapping, and have decided to give Stanley Jorden esq tapping a go, however, it's hopelessly hard to tap with long fingernails, so, I decided to completely shorten down my right hand nails (They weren't very strong in the first place).. However, I was hoping to move back and fourth between the two styles (And I have a performance coming up soon where i would really need the long nails), and was wondering if their are any products that are like.. Nail replacements, they do the same thing, but can be taken off and on. They would need to be quicker than acrylic nails (something I could just take on and off). I've tried the normal Finger picks, and they are nothing like real nails. I've heard a bit about the Alaska Piks, what are people here's opinion of them? I can't really just dive in with them, as I live in NZ, and would have to order them in (at $5 each . Anything else I could use? Thanks.
Members dadgad7 Posted July 25, 2006 Members Posted July 25, 2006 Awesome Jack - great question, I have similar issues, I like to get creative with a bit of tapping on the acoustic, especially in alternate tunings! anyway, yeah, it destroys my nails after 10 minutes! those Alaska picks might be the best thing going for ease of use and taking on and off at a moments notice - Good Luck I couldn't get use to them, they were the best I tried, but me and fingerpicks just don't get along..... my solution? I hardly ever tap anymore, 'cuz it gets in the way of my other playing,. which is how I play 98% of the time anyway. no sense in screwing up 98% of my playing for 2% of fun occasionally:confused:
