Members Wilbo26 Posted July 23, 2006 Members Posted July 23, 2006 Been looking for one of these for a while now, randomly found one in a pawn shop, and the entire time I was trying it out and going over it some other guy had walked in looking at 12 strings, and was just waiting for me to put it down so he could grab it. Glad I walked into that pawn shop when I did. 170 out the door. Its a little beat up, but nothing major for a guitar of its age. Might need a Bridge Doctor or something to lower the action a bit, but I've already gotten used to the higher action on it and I think it will kill with a slide. Great tone, very full, nice volume, everything I was expecting it to be. Thank god for cheap red label yamahas!
Members babablowfish Posted July 23, 2006 Members Posted July 23, 2006 Yamaha made/makes some great guitars that defy the conventional wisdom re: laminates. Congratulations on your purchase. Maybe you can do a truss rod adjustment and/or lower the saddle to help with the action. In any case, you might want to keep it tuned down a note or two to preserve the neck.

The neck is in great shape, what is wrong is that the tension is pulling up the body ever so slightly so that it raises the bridge, and I know there are things that can be done to reinforce the body and correct that. True that on the laminates comment. They really figured out how to make them sound good.

There's 1 review for the FG-350. Never seen or heard of one myself. If you're thinking 6 string go for an FG-180. They're the best bet for great vintage acoustic tone for cheap in my experience.
Members babablowfish Posted July 23, 2006 Members Posted July 23, 2006 BTW, anyone ever play (I think) an FG350? Never played an FG-350 but I play an FG-340 and it is amazing. I invariably elicit howls of derisive laughter when I say that it sounds better to me than any Martin, Taylor or Gibson I have tried, but there you go. Also Rickkk plays an FG-365S which has a lot of mojo in the Yamaha pantheon.

Now that I have the two I wanted I can say that I think they are the best steal in acoustic guitars these days.

Nice balanced sound. Like Baba, I have never played the FG350, but if it's anything like my Yamaha - a good bet.
