Attention acoustic junkies;

please lend me your opinions on acoustic strings.

Why do you like what you like?

What kind of guitar do you play them on?

I've got a Seagull S6+CW and I normally use either Ernie Ball Slinky phos/bronze 11-52 or John Pearse phos/bronze 12-53.

Can't say I'm crazy about either...they're not bad but neither has really impressed me...yet I need to buy a few sets so I'm looking for some input.

Speak to me. :)

For steel string:

I use Elixirs Nanoweb exclusively,

0.12 on Seagull and Hashimoto dread,

0.11 on Sovereign 1203.

Long life, long tone life,

and pleasing to my ear.

AAAND less squeek on the wounded strings.

For classical guitar: Thomastik-Infeld Classic S. Huge improvement of balance and sustain.

That keeps me happy.

Have fun!

So far, I guess I like elixers the best, although I change out the wound G for a solid G. My accoustic is pretty sorry sounding though, so I could most likely use bread ties and still have the same sound.

Martin SP Phos 12.5s

newtone masterclass mediums...

I use the Martin's 99% of the time, but i've been really pleased with the Newtone's, if only i could get them local.

Martin SP are very good (even though I put them on a red guitar:D )

Right now I'm trying out Cleartone strings 11-52

they seem pretty nioce, I like the feel and sound, but they've only been on for a week or so, still waiting to decide if I'd recommend them or not, you can't even tell they're coated, and I love the

no-string-squeak {censored}!

anybody ever try those Dean Markley gold phosphur/bronze

shell coated chords of crap? whatever they are --

I bought a couple sets but haven't put 'em on yet....

the alchemy's? i tried em once... didn't last me any longer than SPs, and when they went, they went hard... they didn't feel good to my fingers either...

I've been using Martin SP Fingerstyle's on my OM-1 and think I may stick with them for a while. They seem more balanced compared to the 80/20s, which start off super bright and then the highs tail off rapidly.

I have settled on the DR Sunbeams, PB, but wound on a round core. Seems silly, but it does make a very noticeable difference over the same string on a hex core, which is their Rare brand.

I am with Dave and favor the PB Sunbeams for tone and ease of play. The round core allows for a little less string tension. Mediums feel more like lights. I also like the John Pearse PB in 12-53, you are not crazy about.

For coated strings I actually prefer the DM Alchemy PB followed closely by DR Extra Life.

A friend gave me a couple sets of these recently and I enjoyed the heck out of them.

I'm easy, most any quality brand of ph/br works for me. I prefer Martin strings but they don't make the exact guages I like. GHS is what I usualy go with only because the local has them and they've got my guages.

Right now I'm using Elixir PB Nanos (.012-.053) on both my acoustics.

I'm going to try out Newtone Masterclass Custom Light PBs on my OM-03R though.

I can tell you what NOT to get....

Black Diamond coated strings....the most horrible strings known to man!

they look sorta cool, being black and all but......beyond that, they are damn near unplayable!!

sound is terribly muted.....they are sticky and give more string squeak than uncoated ones.

I got seven sets over the internet for $4.00,

that's .57 cents a set folks, and they are not even worth THAT!

stay clear!

Thanks for all of the replies, folks.

I have to tell you that I was leaning to the Martin SP strings before I started this thread.

I don't know why I was other than I liked the description I read of them on another website.

I can say that I've tried Elixers in the past and was not impressed with them. I also change my strings on a fairly regular basis so a set of coated long life strings that cost over twice as much as normal strings is not really practical.

I may give a set of DR's a shot.

Thanks again. :)
