Everything I played up until now just felt blah and unispiring...this was not the case here.

I cant describe the sound...it was boomy but balanced and warm and complex...

I played a few Gibsons today. J-45 rose sounded freakin' great! Workingmans 45 was ok, Songwriter was a big let down, CJ-165 had an interesting tone, but I played an old beat-to-{censored} Harmony an hour later that sounded way better.

I just happened to play one this evening at Daddy's Junky Music. Holy Cow! That is a truly amazing guitar! I am starting to GAS as well.
But it goes for over $2,000.00! I dunno, but I think that will help keep the GAS in check.

It sure looks the part...and if it sounds nearly as good I will snap it up :p:

What's the verdict on those Epi's?

I feel ya...J-200 is my dream guitar

But lately I find myself leaning more towards this....AT THE MOMENT...because I feel like I'm too young and broke to buy the SJ-200 at this moment in my life....the Southern Jumbo is a more reasonable price and it is a sweet sounding guitar....I will get my SJ-200 someday, but this is definitely what I'll be getting soon :D:cool:

With all due respect, I seriously doubt it. I have not played an FG700S so I can't say for sure. However, I play an FG340 which is very highly rated and which I have found to produce a tone which IMHO is superior (to me) to the Taylors, Gibsons and Martins I have played. The SJ-150, though, was a whole other animal. Ain't no way I would ever try to compare my FG340 to that monster. It was vastly superior in every way. Still, I will be on the lookout for the FG700S and take it for a spin to see for myself.

FWIW, it was a maple epi 200 that woke me up to the SJ style. But I ended up with a Gibson J-150.

The Gibson is a jumbo, the Yamaha is a dread.

They are different animals.

Yea, I hate Gibsons too. J-200s are currently the flower boxes around my back garden. I save the front for a different brand worthy of my front landscaping (D-41s) because the Rosewood blends very well with river rock. Hummingbirds are actually hung on poles in my backyard to attract - yep - hummingbirds. I hung a few Doves just to see if they attracted their namesakes but those birds are just too stupid. They look great though. With the strings removed and dowels attached just below the soundhole they make great birdhouses. Smaller dowels extending from where the bridge pins go allow me to hang plants. I do admit that I wouldn't use anything but Gibsons and Martins for my landscaping.

I take that as a friendly ribbing.

Aside from the flowery pickguard - who wouldn't like a bit more bling if they can afford it?

But honestly, my guitar could have recorded the sound clips for the J-200 and - at least in 2001 - had plenty of flame and figure in the maple.

IMO the jumbos are Gibson`s finest, without a doubt. No boom at all in my SJ200, just deep thunderous bass nicely balanced by sweet trebles and solid mids.
