Members postalsock Posted July 30, 2006 Members Posted July 30, 2006 i actually have 2 questions my first is, how long does it take for a guitars sound to open up. My second question is my actions a little high and im not gonna take it in and im not gonna lower it myself will it lower overtime??
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted July 30, 2006 Members Posted July 30, 2006 Answer #1: Varies from guitar to guitar, and is dependent on how much that guitar is played, but anywhere from a few months to a year or so. Answer #2: Probably not, but lowering your action by sanding the bottom of the saddle is pretty simple to do.
Members Freeman Keller Posted July 31, 2006 Members Posted July 31, 2006 1 - some guitars never "open up", some are "open" from birth. A lot seems to depend on construction - how much the braces were scalloped, thickness of top and bridge plate. But TAH is right - most will change significantly during the first year or so. 2 - The tension on the neck and bridge will never lower the action, just raise it. If you do nothing the action will get higher as the neck sets. Might take 10 or 20 years, but it will not go down.
