Confused by the Martin GT-models are so much cheaper than non GT's.

If it's not a gloss top, what is it then?

Does it have a name?

I tried dictionaries and gloss top just states polished somehow.

So non-polished tops are much more expensive?

Something missing in my english here I think.

Please, help me out.. :(

the non-gloss top models are a satin finish, and let the wood breath more easily and many people say they have better tone because of it.

satin finishes just sound better, so therefore they cost more.

Really

I wouldn't mind having a link to the source of this info, it's contrary to everything I have ever heard.

GT means only the top is gloss, the rest is satin. On standard series (the more expensive ones) the whole guitar is gloss.

Satin and gloss are exactly the same chemical except they add a hardening agent to satin in order to save time. Has no effect on tone whatsoever.

Now my coin entered, my lights went on,.....thanks.

Now it makes sense even to me.:)

But still strange in a way, having an extra model code for saying:

Well, only top is gloss on this one so we call it GT.

Must be a womans logics or something;)

i swear i read it somewhere, and I'm pretty sure it was on the Martin website...which of course is giving me an error now when I try to get to it...

i can't think of a single guitar maker who prices guitars based on how good they sound... gloss is more time consuming to finish than satin... so having 2/3s less gloss on the "GT" saves you some dough.

Don't sweat it. Everyboby makes mistakes, god knows I have made my share, and then some. It is the thing that sour's me on that Wikpedia thing, too much unconfirmed info posted.
