Members juice Posted August 3, 2006 Members Posted August 3, 2006 Saw that GC is offering a free Jasmine S35 when you purchase 10 sets of D'Addario EXP's (12s or 13s). $99 for the deal. I was thinking this might be a good deal to get a beater to keep at the office that I wouldn't worry about. But....I'm not sure about these strings. Have yet to try them yet, any coated strings for that matter. Would this be a worthwhile deal to check out even if I end up not caring for these particular strings? Anyone use these currently that can give an opinion?
Members dwerlin Posted August 3, 2006 Members Posted August 3, 2006 read carefuly, the strings are the EXP12's and EXP13's, the 12 and 13 don't correspond to string gauge (although the EXP12's are 13-56...the EXP13's are a custom light 11-52). if you use 13's or the cusom light 11's then the deal would be good for you (but if you use the "Standard" light gauge 12's, you're out of luck, according to this deal). regarding the strings, I use the EXP16's (12's) and I LOVE them. I won't use anything else. They are coated strings, but they don't feel like it at all! They are certainly not plasticky or slippery like Elixir's, and they last FOREVER. My current set has been on for just about a year, and I'm only now (today) changing them out. Granted I don't play every day, but damn, that's pretty good IMO. lastly, I'm pretty sure the Jasmine guitar sells for $99 by itself, so i guess it's a tossup if you won't use the strings.

Normally, I use Martin SPs (11s or sometimes 12s, they're not coated) on my acoustics, but I have used EXPs and been very happy with them.I agree with dweriln. They don't feel like they're not made of metal, and they last a very long time. Another thing I like about them is that they don't sound too bright. Sometimes when I use Elixirs on my acoustics, I get an overly-tinny tone and I just can't stand it. Ellen
Frets99 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Originally posted by allthumz That is great! - Robert Thanks, it kind of grew as a result of a thread title here which aptly enough was "Gonna buy me a plywood cheapie" I threwdown some quick lyrics and Stackabones threw down as well and the rest is history. I did it quickly yesterday morning and might work on the phrasing a little but I like it and will probably add it to my acoustic set! Ya never know from whence comes inspiration!!

Members electricfish Posted August 7, 2006 Members Posted August 7, 2006 I've got a cheap Jasmine that plays and sounds great - and those strings are fine if you like the gauges
Members hammergjh Posted August 7, 2006 Members Posted August 7, 2006 I saw that deal. I just didn't want to spend the hundred bucks. I did buy a couple sets of those EXP's, though. I haven't played 'em yet, I'll be puttin' 'em on my larrivee soon.
