Check with some of the musicians at your church. Usually someone involved with youth ministry knows what's current. Don't go to church? Well, now you got an excuse to go. Plus, you'll meet folks there who will want to play, and there are some good gigs for praise & worship music inside church--either during services or special events. N.B., Most bars don't dig that stuff!
Members guit30 Posted August 5, 2006 Members Posted August 5, 2006 Not much difference than any other music, you just have to learn the chords and melody, lots of fake books out there for praise music

Members zb0430 Posted August 6, 2006 Members Posted August 6, 2006 I must wholeheartedly throw in my current obsession, David Crowder Band. They're a very fresh, unique look that truly exemplifies "modern worship", a step beyond contemporary. And from a faith standpoint, the man "gets it" more so than most. To top it off, he's just a good guy, too. They're also better live than on their records, a rare treat these days! www.chirstianguitar.com has tons of tabs/chord charts to pick from various well known artists. Few other guys/bands to ponder on: Chris Tomlin Derek Webb Matt Redman (Amazing songwriter, writes 50% of the worship songs you hear) Michael W. Smith Peculiar People Band MercyMe Darrell Evans Charlie Hall You'll find alot of the guys are just chord strummers that focus on authentic lyrics, but not always true to all of them. (Corwder has alot of multi layered guitar work) Good luck with it!
Members KATMAN Posted August 6, 2006 Members Posted August 6, 2006 In our church we do songs by Chris Tomlin,Matt Redman,Darrel Evans,Tim Hughes and lots of stuff by Hillsong. We've also doen other things as well, most of it is easy as pie. I use open chords when I play my acoustic. Our praise team plays fast tempo songs to get the blood pumpin',then we slow down. Most of the songs in praise and worship is very simple when played with a acoustic. If you know G,C,D and E minor, you pretty much got it made. Here's a site where we get most of our songs so you have a idea: www.iwillworship.com If you have any questions, send me a pmI'll be glad to help you in any way I can. God Bless, KAT

More often,if we listen to a song and find out that the words are good but the music is bland,we'll re-arrange it to meet our style of play. I'm happy we got a Pastor who loves guitar music. I love love it even more when I hear the words,"We more distortion and volume on the guitar"! I guess a lot of songs we do are CCM,but the way we play it's more like Jesus Rock-n-Roll!
Members zb0430 Posted August 7, 2006 Members Posted August 7, 2006 We need more guys like Phil Keaggy, if you ask me. For some reason I just LOVE that song, don't know why. Some songs just captivate you, right?
Members guit30 Posted August 7, 2006 Members Posted August 7, 2006 My Church, Calvary Chapel of Philly plays the most incredible praise music, plus the musicians for the main team are awesome, they only use acoustic guitars though, plus bass, drums, (electronic)keyboards. Our church seats 2000 and we fill up 3 morning services and an evening service. Recently we had the Kry play worship for a Sunday.I play for A monday night Bible study worship team, we still use the main sanctuaryLove my ChurchJim

They were a little bit bubble-gummish on their first couple of CD's, but their last one, Beauty from Pain, is really good. I'm up for a P &W jam!
