Members 4sidedoctagon Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Today i droped my martin while walking down my driveway, the strap came lose and worked itself off. The guitar now has a cracked top and is scratched up with a dent in the bottom part of the body.
Members orsino Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Everybody's worst nightmare. I'm really sorry about that man!
Members kwakatak Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Sorry to hear that! Do you have someone who can try and fix it?
Members LittleBrother Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 DANG !@ what a bummer. You know that is actually better than splitting a side. The good thing is that properly repaired she will play and sound just as good. Still sorry to hear it pal.
Members fruggy Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Ouch I'm always afraid something like that will happen, that has got to suck bad. Hope the repairs go well, look at this way now it will have "character"
Members confuseitall Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 so sorry to hear that man. I'm always a little uncertain about that strap button.....Hope the repairs go well.

In about twenty years (well after the guitar is repaired and when it's playing better than ever), I'd love to hear the story again about how it got damaged. Stories have a neat way of morphing over the years.
Members seven7 Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 so sorry to hear this, big bummer. once it's fixed you should consider getting some schaller strap locks. i use those on my electric and acoustic guitars.or at least some of those cheap plastic locking things that dunlop makes that just go over the strap and button and twist on. if you have an endpin jack you can just put the extra button on down below where the endpin jack is towards the back of the guitar. this is exactly what i do. definitely adds security.
Members Preacher Will Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Ohhhhhh, man, that hurts just to think about. One of my ongoing fears is of a strap coming loose and the guit falling. My condolences . . . FWIW, if you're on the east coast, I can recommend a great repair guy. Come to think of it, he's great even if you're not on the east coast. PM me if you want name and address.

That was the first thing that popped into my mind. For some reason people who play acoustics don't give much thought to strap locks like electric players do...
Members Unk Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Oh man! I can feel your pain, literally. Hearing that makes my gut have that feeling you get when you suddenly drop on a roller coaster.Let us know how you proceed from here in case I ever have it happen. I've heard stories of great guitars that have been to hell and back and remain the favorite and loved guitar because of its trials. Hope that happens here.
Members 54merk Posted April 23, 2004 Members Posted April 23, 2004 Sorry to hear about your misfortune. A top crack can be repaired with glue and a cleat, but hopefully the body damage is not all the way through.
Members JesusGodJesus Posted April 24, 2004 Members Posted April 24, 2004 I feel your pain The first day I had my Martin, I was wearing it with a strap, and walking through a doorway in my house and someone wasn't looking and shut the door while i was walking through, and the knob put a ding in my D-16GT. It's barely noticable, but I was so upset about it, I can only imagine how you feel SInce then, I vowed never to use a strap w/ an acoustic again, and I've kept that promise
Members postalsock Posted August 10, 2006 Members Posted August 10, 2006 that is why i will never spend over 400 dollars for a guitar congrads.
Members smokiee Posted August 10, 2006 Members Posted August 10, 2006 sorry to hear bout your git man... it happened to me once but luckily that day i decided to bring my beater out. i was at the parking lot near the beach with my git hanging by the strap and suddenly someone called me from behind and i swung around (fast). and my git flew sideways and landed about 6/7 feet away. but then as i said i was lucky its my beater, the neck snapped!! hope it will be repaired soon so you can keep on playin.
Members rjoxyz Posted August 10, 2006 Members Posted August 10, 2006 Man, that made me flinch. Really sorry to hear about it. I hate to do it, butI gotta ask the question others are too decent to ask: Why were you walking down your driveway with a Martin strapped to your chest?

Hmm...I thought it was because you were prone to throw your guitar across the room when your mommy interrupted your playing.

Members Godot Posted August 10, 2006 Members Posted August 10, 2006 Every time I see a story about someone dropping a guitar when it slips off the strap, I feel the need to make a public service announcement: BUY GROLSCH BEER. It tastes OK, and the bottles come with rubber gaskets that are PERFECT for holding straps onto strap buttons.

Guess I'll never know why someone would meander down their driveway with a Martin on a strap.
