Members eroom Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 Wow. I stopped off at GC during lunch, and picked up a Yamaha FG720s. What an amazing guitar for $250. I'm going back to pick one up, after I get off. The quality of this guitar was easily better than the Alvarez, and Washburn guitars that they had in stock. I would put this guitar up with the Guild Gad series in terms of quality, and tone. I'm a huge fan of the Guilds, and the fg720s, and fg730s are right up there. This thing is an absolute steal for $250.
Members Stackabones Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 There's been plenty of good talk about Yamahas in these forums lately. Good luck with the purchase. You gonna haggle that price a bit? Since you can get it for about the same price online without tax and free shipping, you may get them to move a bit on price--or at least get it at that price out-the-door. Post some pics and give us a review when you get home (after you've played in non-stop for hours)!!!
Members RainsongDR1000 Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 My First real guitar was a Yamaha FG345 I bought for about $225 back in 1979 (new). It's still going strong and I'll never part with it. It's my main backup and loaner at open mics. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking as they say, plus it sounds and plays great for a laminate guitar. I did blind tests when I was buying it (not that I'm blind, but, you know what I mean), and I liked it's sound and feel over a Guild that was twice the price.
Members Rickkkk Posted August 16, 2006 Members Posted August 16, 2006 I echo Rainsong's sentiment re: my 1978 FG-365S. Cheers !
Members postalsock Posted August 16, 2006 Members Posted August 16, 2006 your talkin to the fg master. I bought a fg700s because i liked the sound best out of all the fg series. They really are a great buy. Mine even has a little bear claw.
