Members Whalebot Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 Cowboy, open position, sure they could all be sexual positions, but we know that they are not. and I love em. I'm a folkie, three (or four) chords and a capo. There's something quite satisfying about a big fat E.
Members JasmineTea Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 G. Everything should be in G...with the exception of an ocassional song in C.

Members postalsock Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 yea open E's are a great chord. I also like Cadd7 or something its like a open C but instead of it being on the first fret its on the 3rd.

Sorry, "Dave's Blues" is in E. I have been playing it for years and thought I was so original. One day I was digging through a drawer and found an old Fred Sokolow cassette lesson. There it was, note for note. Can't even remember buying the tape, too many lost brain cells. Anyway, it's now back to "Fred's Blues", but it's still in E and I love it.
Members kwakatak Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 Nope, you're all wrong. D is where it's at. Especially with the F# on the 6th string.

Members Cldplytkmn Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 ah... the kinda thread i can appreciate... haha... G, C, D... i can't pick a favorite key... Every time i pick up new guitars at shops i strum a G, if it sounds good, i continue with more shapes and runs and things...

I guess it must be my clarinet upbringing.no, not really.I suppose if I surveyed the repertoire, such as it is, probably 3/4 of the tunes I play are in the key of G. maybe more, but because I can't sing worth a tinker's damn, I am compelled to move and around up the neck.

Actualy, I've been appreciating Bb and G minor lately. Here's an open G minor for anyone interested, frets: 3X0333 or X, depending on your pref/fingering. You can also get the 7th(s) and 6th here. A couple different ways to finger it: TMute with tip of thumb0111Or:1Mute with side of 10234Or if you wanna get the 7s and 6 on the high string:2Mute with side of 20341 will reach the 7s, 0pen for the 6th. Hope this makes sense...

Members theGOOCH Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 according to chordbook.com A#sus/E So B flattyish would be correct!

Members Rickkkk Posted August 15, 2006 Members Posted August 15, 2006 This thread's already pretty loaded, but I'll chime in anyway. I much prefer the sound of open chords on an acoustic. No matter how good your barre chords are, they'll never resonate as much as a good open chord. ... and ... the opposite is generally true on an electric. Life is so nice and balanced ....

That is my "default" 3 chord progression. It is very soothing. - Robert

Members Whalebot Posted August 16, 2006 Author Members Posted August 16, 2006 Tune the 'B' to an 'A' like in DADGAD, leave the others in standard.
