Members gnugear Posted August 27, 2006 Members Posted August 27, 2006 I'm trying to figure out John Fehey's Requiem for John Hurt and can't figure out the tuning. Anyone know what it was?

Anyone know what it was? are you kidding? This month's issue of Acoustic Guitar (just got it) has a section on John Fahey and features that very song. It's all worked out, page 66, October issue. Open C tuning.
Members F-holes Posted August 27, 2006 Members Posted August 27, 2006 Requiem For John Hurt. Get the issue anyway.
Members Faheyfan Posted August 27, 2006 Members Posted August 27, 2006 Correct. Open C - CGCGCE - low to high. Also tabbed and taught by Fahey in his Fingerstyle & Slide Guitar in Open Tunings book. If you're playing around with Fahey tunes in Open C, you may want to give Sunflower River Blues a shot. A pure joy to play and sounds wonderful with those low bass notes if your guitar can handle the tuning.
Members Faheyfan Posted August 27, 2006 Members Posted August 27, 2006 Both songs also tabbed on johnfahey.com along with a couple dozen others.
Members gnugear Posted August 27, 2006 Author Members Posted August 27, 2006 Hey thanks, what absolute perfect timing!! I'll go check out the magazine today as that's my favorite song of his.
Members gnugear Posted August 27, 2006 Author Members Posted August 27, 2006 Would a 00/Grand Concert shape be able to handle the low tuning? I'm thinking of picking one of those up.
