Members pathofspirit Posted August 31, 2006 Members Posted August 31, 2006 I have an Epiphone PR 350-12 I picked up a while back which I am unable to keep in tune. It needs constant re-adjustment which is a bit of a frustration after playing my Masterbilt. Any thoughts as to how to correct this? New tuning pegs? New set-up? New guitar?
Members johbren Posted August 31, 2006 Members Posted August 31, 2006 welcome to the world of twelve strings. Thats one of the reasons that I dont mess with tweve strings anymore. I think they are all that way to a certain degree.
Members Freeman Keller Posted August 31, 2006 Members Posted August 31, 2006 Are you saying that one or more string chronically goes out of tune? Which one? Sharp or flat? Over what period of time? What strings and tuning (concert, down)? FWIW - my 12 usually needs a little correction each time I take it out of the case, but holds its tune as well as any of my other steel string guitars. But the nature of a 12 is that when you strum, say an E chord, you have a total of 6 different strings all trying to be an E note and you can hear any one that is slightly off from the others. Also, due to their inherently funky intonation and the nature of all even temperment instruments, a 12 string frequently sounds "out of tune" as you change keys and/or play up the neck. It is rare, but very desirable to have each string of each course individually compensated. And as Leo Kottke says to the audience at in one of his concerts, "this song starts out like all my songs, with a lot of tuning..."
