Members Michael Martin Posted August 30, 2006 Members Posted August 30, 2006 Drove down to Des Moines late last night, bought me that Naftastrat. You should have seen the house. He told me on the phone it was the one with the lights on at 11pm and the picture window boarded up with plywood. Dilapidated house on a street gone to seed long long ago. Shady characters riding bikes everywhichway in the dark as I drove up. Locked the car after I got out, though I planned to be there all of 10 minutes. House smelled like one big ashtray, even from the front yard. Everywhere, piles of stuff--could hardly squeeze by the junk piled up on tne front porch to get to the door. Looked like nobody ever came or went. Looked through the torn sceen door, there she was, propped against the tattered sofa with a gray cat sleeping on the brown leather strap. Bright blue, maple neck, white pickguard. Opened the door, startled by another cat that went dashing out into the tall weeds behind me. Plenty of game to be had out there, I'll bet. He used to play in a band, but the members lost interest. Broke up years ago. Now he's on disability, so just hangs out all day smoking, eating, watching TV, from the looks of things. Very nice guy. Threw in a gig bag and that leather strap. Did the deal, in cash. Two Jacksons. Drove home and as soon as I walked in, my two cats were all over that gig bag like white on rice. They were very interested in the strap, too. My house smells like smoke. Sort of like what happens when I come home Sunday nights from my open mike event in the smoky cafe. The strat? Unplugged, plays really nice. In better shape than I would have expected. I think he was really fond of the guitar, and once it meant a lot to him, so he had taken pretty good care of it. He no longer owned an amp, and I came home too late to plug her in to mine, so will do that tonight. Such a deal.

I should send you half the savings, which I guess would be a "Lincoln". Should, but won't! (He had listed it for "$50 firm") How do you guys get those nice big pics posted, and posted so they appear without having to be linked? The one time I added a photo, it showed up as a link, and to get it accepted by HC I had to shrink it to a postage stamp, even at 72 dpi. I'm not very web-savvy. What's the secret, all ye photo-posters?
Members dwerlin Posted August 30, 2006 Members Posted August 30, 2006 to get nice big pictures with no links you have to have the picture hosted somewhere (i have my own website that i use to host the pictures i post here). there are free ones out there too, i just don't know where to point you since i don't use them!

I have my equipment in my "music room" amps, guitars, assorted stuff, mic stands, cables, etc etc etc. My room smells like cigarettes to this day. I don't believe it is ever going away. BTW, congratulations on your new aquisition. Couldn't happen to a nicer person. Good Job! RT1
