NAY, IMHO Ovations of all models do not have a good acoustic sound plugged in or not. There are many acoustic electric guitars in that price range to try out from Breedlove to Takamine. The best suggestion I can give is have the fun or going to the stores and trying them out. If your recording at home there is nothing like an acoustic guitar and a microphone. This is just my opinion and if you like the sound of the Ovation. It is your recording, follow your ears and your heart. Good luck, and hope your recordings turn ot well.

Yay.

But I'd see if I could find a used Ovation Elite cheaper. Used Ovations tend to be bargains.

I've owned one for 18 years. I've recorded with it. I've performed with it. I loved it. But I gave it to my son. It's still going strong. It's a great guitar in every respect. AND it stayed in tune better than any wood guitar I have ever seen, owned or played.

I've used it for a surf lead guitar. I've used it for a distortion pedal rock lead guitar. I've used it for fancy Folk acoustic fingerstyle. I've strung it with high strings for Nashville tuning. The Ovation Elite could do anything.

My brother has a "Legend" he bought new in the mid 70s'. He plays live through an acoustic simulator because he thinks it has a better acoustic sound that way. He does like the sound unplugged. That's just his opinion. LOL Different strokes for different folks.:D

I like Ovations and own one. However, I think for recording a good acoustic sound you can do better and get by cheaper. Try a Masterbilt Epiphone. You should be able to get one for around $500.00 and they are solid wood. They are excellent instruments and sound magnificent. That is only one example. There are many more.

Spend the other hundred and buy you a good large diaphram condenser mic. Maybe even a couple of them. That'll get you a much better acoustic sound than trying to plug something directly into a recording set up. I use a Audio Technica AD2020 and it works just fine. Add about a 20% reverb to the mix and it'll do wonders.

Good Luck!
