Members ninhsavestheday Posted September 4, 2006 Members Posted September 4, 2006 i found a Martin OMC Aura for 1200... however the gloss on the back of the whole neck was peeled off and has not completely peeled off. is the guitar worth it and is it going to be ok even with the finish chiping? the dealer said i could take a fine sand paper and smooth it out...
Members Dave Keir Posted September 4, 2006 Members Posted September 4, 2006 I can't comment on the value. You should be able to haggle a better deal, if that's the starting price. As regards the neck, if you're not too concerned about the cosmetics, then its a feel thing. I've got to admit, I didn't know Martin did gloss necks - learn something every day. Play the guitar and if the indentations don't irritate you overmuch, then you can be confident that a luthier will improve it even more - and possibly sort out any cosmetic issue to a large extent. If they are deep enough to bother you, or interfere with your playing, I would maybe look elsewhere. Good luck!
Members guitarist21 Posted September 4, 2006 Members Posted September 4, 2006 I personally don't like gloss on the back of necks. My hand will get sweaty and it will stick and make it harder to play. Also, when I'm buying a used instrument, dents and scratches don't bother me so much because I'm just going to dent it myself. Unless you're looking for a like-new guitar, I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal here, NinH. I'm pretty sure those guitars new go for $2700 or so. Ellen
Members ninhsavestheday Posted September 5, 2006 Author Members Posted September 5, 2006 its on clearance for 1800, but the guy is going to give it to me for 1200... i want to see if he will throw in a case for free. so you guys think the guitar will be fine even with the chipped gloss on the back?
