Returned the J-185EC

The Prefix Plus system was having problems, and I returned it --- figured I would check out some more acoustics.

 

So far, I have been spending a lot of time with the Taylors --- very comfortable, and very toneful. As of now, I have narrowed my search down to wanting a grand auditorium body size.

 

I have tried the 814CE, 614CE, 514CE, and the 414CE. My two favorites of these, are the 614, and 514 --- they both sounded great. One interesting thing I saw, was the color of the cedar top on the 514 -- on website pics, it looks like a regular AN color, with just a hint of red tint. In real life though, the 514s I saw were a much deeper red color on top --- no hint of AN at all Maybe these are older models? Also, the website pics of the 614s, show them as having no pickguard --- however all of the ones I saw in the store, had pickguards on them; again, maybe these are older models?

 

Anyway, this will not be an easy decision. Based on what I've written, do you guys have other makes/models you think I should try?

Are you sure the 514 was not a Mahogany top? I had an all Mahogany 512 for a while, nice recording guitar.

It could be that the tag was wrong --- but it said, red cedar.
