Members dlyprs Posted September 13, 2006 Members Posted September 13, 2006 I need to buy an acoustic guitar to send to someone at a camp. She has trouble making chord shapes if the neck has too muck taper, so I like the Guild. But the Guild is made in china and the Taylor is made in America. I have tried both and the Taylors seem to be too ringy. I figure that is because of the laminate sides. The sound of the Guild is very nice to my ears but is quality going to be an issue? I can get either for low $600. I appreciate your comments on this.

Members da mayor Posted September 13, 2006 Members Posted September 13, 2006 I have a GAD-30 R and don't think you have to worry at all about it's quality. Don't let the fact that it's built in China put you off. There are some really good guitars being built in China these days (for instance the Epi Masterbuilt's). The Guild GAD series are of excellent build quality, as good as anything you'll see from America. My only quibble with it is the poly finish, which is well done by the eay, I just prefer nitro. I'm not familiar with the Taylor so can't compare it, but you will get a whole lot of guitar for the money if you go with the Guild. Very playable too, I love the neck.
Members dlyprs Posted September 13, 2006 Author Members Posted September 13, 2006 Thanks dm. I think I have made the decision to go with the Guild.
Members Siwash Posted September 13, 2006 Members Posted September 13, 2006 I know I like by GAD50. And the other poster is right: the only thing not to like is the poly finish. But then again, you get your money's worth.
Members Vere Posted September 13, 2006 Members Posted September 13, 2006 The GAD 30 is the folk size? It has a wider nut width than the dreads in the GAD series and a slightly different neck shape.
Members da mayor Posted September 13, 2006 Members Posted September 13, 2006 The GAD 30 is an OM (is that "folk size"? I dunno), 1 3/4 at the nut.
