Members Sweb Posted September 24, 2006 Members Posted September 24, 2006 I haven't used this stuff yet. Anyone use it on a regular basis? I read some testimonials on a couple Internet store sites touting it as a good product although one did make the point that if it got on his picking hand holding onto the pick was nearly impossible. That would not affect me but it's a good point to make here. I'm wondering if it will reduce the string-sweep noise from fingernails. I am curious about the product's make-up. Is it silicone? What do you use to wash it off - wouldn't want it on my french fries - and how does it affect the guitar? I tried running a search but no answers were found. I know a luthier who does not use silicone products at all and advises against it. If anyone has a can of this stuff, what does it say on the label? If nothing clearly identifies the constituents, who is the manufacturer. I'll call and find out. Thanks.
Members JasmineTea Posted September 24, 2006 Members Posted September 24, 2006 I have no facts here, only hear-say, but I've heard nothing good about FingerEase, only bad. Try FastFret. It's nothing but mineral oil, won't hurt your guitar, goes good with fies.
Members Sweb Posted September 24, 2006 Author Members Posted September 24, 2006 Thanks. Saves me the research and I hate washing my hands. Never can do anything with them after.
Members Kozmo Posted September 24, 2006 Members Posted September 24, 2006 I have used "Finger-Sleaze" for years. I don't spray it on my guitar though. I spray my finger tips and wipe the strings with my fingers. It keeps the fretboard from getting gunked up. On stage I used to hold the "Sleaze" up to my nostril and do a fake hit on the stuff, uumm feel better now. (be sure to aim stream away from your face). Allways got a laugh.
Members Old_Joe_Clark Posted September 24, 2006 Members Posted September 24, 2006 got a little can riche here says.. guitar string lubricant for steel, nylon, or gut strings harmless to stratospheric ozone while not for application to hands, residue transfers from strings to fingers and conditions callouses, keeping them soft and smooth without snags. yada yada yada Deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents may be harmful... On lower priced instruments, test for finish or plastic damage.... but nowhere says what's in it. smell reminds me of leather or suede protection treatment
Members Old_Joe_Clark Posted September 24, 2006 Members Posted September 24, 2006 web search suggests finger-ease is silicone based I requested an msds sheet from the manufacturer, which I will post if received.
Members deltadaddio Posted September 25, 2006 Members Posted September 25, 2006 I used to use that stuff and it seemed to work alright -- cut down on string squeek and finger soreness. I recently switched to coated strings that don't really need any additional lubricant. I made the mistake of sraying finger-eze on coated strings once and the coating immediately peeled off the strings -- like little snakes shedding their skins. Don't use with coated strings.
Members derivicus Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 I use it liberally on all of my guitars. It has no buildup, and I can spray the hell out of the fretboard and the back of the neck. I keep cans of it laying around everywhere. I go through a dozen cans a year and have for many years. There's not a bad thing to be said about it.

Members EvilTwin Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 When I used to gig out, I used it all the time during summer shows when the neck was just too sticky. Can't say my guitar had any negative effects.

I only had that reaction that one time so maybe I was jumping to a conclusion as to cause and effect. Maybe it was just a bad batch of strings -- Polywebs. I'm new to this forum but I've already seen that some folks really hate Elixers -- maybe something similar happened to them. I've swithed to Nanowebs and really like them and haven't had that problem of the coating peeling off all at once since that one time. Could have been just a fluke.
Members Jubilee Valence Posted September 27, 2006 Members Posted September 27, 2006 finger ease...... back in '74, this stuff was "Dy-No-Mite!" but somewhere along the line, they went environ-o-friendly with the stuff; It's now basically "clean..." compared to the original stuff, which was canned, pressurized, super-duper, speed-slick'em! Even so, I use it every day--got 20 guitars--all different necks & strings; 'the stuff wouldn't harm a fly... ...but man, it'll sure make your fretted notes fly!! ("friction" somethin' or another....WHEWWW!! ) Jubi ps I coat the whole playing area--spray it right on "thick!" from "nut" to "bridge"...
