Members d03nut Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 Lets' fantasize a little. You've got carte-blanche to build a guitar and put your name on the headstock. Which maker/model/etc. would you choose (as a starting point)? Doesn't have to be the most expensive or the best guitar in the market as long as it's "you". Or is there no such guitar out there? Need to really start from "scratch"? Well, give us "your" guitar's specs then. But it's got to at least "make sense" on some level. For the record, mine would be a certain Canadian-made lam-back....

Members emuhunter Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 I'd say a Gibson Les Paul semi-hollow with f-holes, in a sunburst with a Bigsby. I don't know why, but at the moment that's what I'm feeling.. Otherwise, I'd love to have Art and Lutherie make me something because my first guitar was from those Canadian champs. I love Betty blue. For $200, there's nothing better I've founs... I wonder what they could do with $$$$$$$$...
Members Sweb Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 I think Freeman's got it right. I'd have to either put my own moniker on the headstock or a very tacky stylized questionmark/treble clef. In the sound hole would be a label I'd design thru some software with my own contrived model number and serial number that states 1 of 1. It would be a sunburst cutaway with onboards so I could prefix and suffix the model number with all those alpha characters like the big boys do. Then I'd distress it to give it that stage-war 50-mission crush look. On a serious note, the guitar would bear no headstock logo. It would be a classical capable of taking light gauge steel strings and have cedar/mahogany.

Members BlackCustom Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 But this is my own signature model.I had it made by a custom builder and worked with him to build in my specific specifications. I even designed the inlay pattern, no other guitar has them.
Members Hudman Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 I'm too easy to please. I can name numerous standard model guitars I would love to own.

Ever cut yourself on that cutaway?!I was thinking along these lines for my own signature model. Black, or maybe red dreadnaught, with cool inlays and a distinctive headstock. Something engraved on the pickguard too as a tribute to my 'bird and to the guitar of my dreams, a J200, which of course isn't a dreadnaught, but I helplessly lust for it nonetheless.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted September 26, 2006 Members Posted September 26, 2006 Originally posted by Freeman Keller Crappy picture, sorry And a label, thanks to MS Word the real trick was getting that mando neck on a guitar body...mine would be basically built around the gibson slope shoulder body... burst top, single thick ebony ring soundhole inlay... no f/b inlays... oh and the masterbuilt style headstock with some sort of neat inlay...

Members Terry Allan Hall Posted September 27, 2006 Members Posted September 27, 2006 Mine would be made by Guild...basically, my JF-4 w/ a tasteful D-45 type body trim and two sea-serpents (one red abalone, one pau-shell) intertwined in coitus inlayed into the ebony fingerboard...maybe my name on the trussrod cover. And a matching 12-string.
Members t60 fan Posted September 27, 2006 Members Posted September 27, 2006 Problem with my own signature model is it wouldn't be as much fun to criticize.
