Members andershoeg Posted September 30, 2006 Members Posted September 30, 2006 Hey everyone. Just wants to know; what is your chain like? Guitar w. magnetic soundhole pickup -> ?? D.I. box, fx, anything else? I have got a Seagull without build in pickup, but have got a soundhole pickup, and wants to know what YOU are doing when playing live over a PA.B.R. andershoeg
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted September 30, 2006 Members Posted September 30, 2006 I always had an MXR 6-band graphic EQ between my p/u and PA...a "smile curve" helps by reducing the mids a bit...low-mids make it sound "electric". The Boss GE-7 is a good one, too.
Members andershoeg Posted October 1, 2006 Author Members Posted October 1, 2006 thanks Terry. So you are not using a D.I. box at all? I actually thought that was a must have, but apparently not B.r. andershoeg

I actually thought that was a must have, but apparently not B.r. andershoeg I do now, but then I've not used a magnetic sound-hole P/U in several years...switched over to a UST, into a Baggs PADI, into the PA (solo gigs) or add through some stomp-boxes (trio gigs). Actually, you should try out a PADI, yourself...they work great w/ mags, too!

I agree 100% Every soundhole mag I've used needed a serious cut around 500hz. And the MXR is a great unit. But if you're mag isn't "active" you'd also benefit from a buffer- an active DI or acoustic pre like the Baggs Para DI.
Members guit30 Posted October 1, 2006 Members Posted October 1, 2006 using a Behringer preamp previously, now I'm using a Guyatone ST compressor after the mag pu and before the direct box(LR Baggs Para DI)- great live country sound, lively without sounding squashed,
