Members jerrysimon Posted October 3, 2006 Members Posted October 3, 2006 Last weekend I went along to the a guitar shop. Its the first time that I have got to play Taylors from the big baby right up to the new a 810 and GS side by side. I currently have a Taylor 314CE about four years old with old electrics and a barn door in the side In 20+ years of playing I guess I have not purchased that many guitars the Taylor was actually an insurance purchase when my daughter put a hole in my Guild and before that I had not purchased a guitar (with the exception of a couple of travel guitars) for over 10 years. I am actually looking for a 12 string at the moment but will probably also change my Taylor this time for one with no electrics that date. Anyway whilst I was in the shop I kept going back to this Takamine G220S NS. http://www.takamine.com/?fa=detail&mid=1461&sid=527 It was amazing so easy to play, good sound and
Members Michael Martin Posted October 3, 2006 Members Posted October 3, 2006 I think this can happen--fluke guitars that is. I found a wonderful-to-play Fender acoustic once--I don't know the model. It was a dread. It wasn't pretty, but it was cheap, and by damn I shoulda bought it. One quibble though: 149 pounds would not be $80...more like a bit less than $300. If we're talking UK pounds and American dollars, anyway. PS I do like Takamines...I have two different F series Taks, one older and one pretty new. I've played some G series Taks that I liked, but they didn't sound or play as nicely as my Fs.
Members babablowfish Posted October 3, 2006 Members Posted October 3, 2006 As Duke Ellington said: "If it sounds good, it is good." I that some of us worry too much about what is supposed to be good vs just going with our experience.
Members guit30 Posted October 4, 2006 Members Posted October 4, 2006 I feel the same way about my cheap Rd20S, I am totally happy with itJim
Members fats Posted October 4, 2006 Members Posted October 4, 2006 I worked in a store last year and before then had never played a Takamine guitar - *all* of the low-end ones we got in just blew me away. ...that being said, I bought a Garrison. Go figure. But I was *this close* (I had it on layaway) to buying a GS330S, which is a cedar-topped model. They are definitely excellent for the price - though it was the same with the Yamahas, too.

The Taylor GC played like buttah, but the $1500 price tag left a sour taste in my mouth. It may have been a nicer guitar than my Tak all around, but not $1500 nicer. In the end I eventually took my Tak in to a luthier and paid $80 for some repairs and a set up. When I got it back, I forgot all about that Taylor! Sure, I've gotten a new guitar since and done some ill-advised chop-shop upgrades to the Tak but I swear the thing is only getting better with age. It just seems to "fit" like an old pair of boots - though just as likely to implode under the strain!

Members fats Posted October 4, 2006 Members Posted October 4, 2006 I definitely made the right choice with the Garrison G25. No regrets at all!

Members Cldplytkmn Posted October 4, 2006 Members Posted October 4, 2006 i had a GS330S that i just a while back gave to my buddy cause i wasn't playing it anymore... i thought it was pretty responsive unless i played it back to back with some of my other guitars, at which point it felt a little clunky... but for the money it was awesome
