Members EVERTON Posted October 13, 2006 Members Posted October 13, 2006 I have an applause acoustic and lately it seems to have developed fret buzz around the 3rd to 6th frets on the high e and b strings. Somebody suggested using higher gauge strings, I normally use 9's, someone else told me the truss road might need altering. What do you lot think, thanks in advance....
Members recordingtrack1 Posted October 13, 2006 Members Posted October 13, 2006 Don't mess with the truss rod. You need to go up to at least 11's in my opinion. Maybe that will increase the tension on your neck enough to eliminate the buzz. Personally, I would go up to 12s but that's just me. At the top of the thread page you will see a "sticky" by Freeman Kellar called "Is my guitar sick?" Read that thing carefully. I believe you will gain tremendous insight into problems with acoustic guitars. Good luck and check back after you eliminate the problem. Let us know what is going on. RT1:)
Members DonK Posted October 13, 2006 Members Posted October 13, 2006 Yeah, check out Freeman's thread, but with .009's on an acoustic it's a wonder the whole thing doesn't sound like a hive of bees. Are they electric strings? I've never even seen .009's for an acoustic.
Members EVERTON Posted October 13, 2006 Author Members Posted October 13, 2006 ha ha yeah, you can tell I'm an electric guitar player, I went straight for the 9's through force of habit I suppose, I'll get some 10's or maybe 11's even on the morrow. I noticed the 'sticky' just after I posted...D'oh! cheers....

Don't go lighter than 11's. It would be best if you went with lights (12's). Get use to 12's and you will feel more comfortable playing other people's guitars. 12's are standard on most guitars.
