Members tincob Posted October 16, 2006 Members Posted October 16, 2006 I'm a beginner. Just started my classical lessons. I'm looking at two guitars online, both used. I know I'm better off having someone with experience play the guitars first to pick the right one (different build qulities and all that) but there are more choices online and I can always resell it with a little loss if I absolutely dislike it. Anyway, my two choices are the La Patrie Concert for $250 or Yamaha CG180S ($ ?, but roughly in the same range). They both get good reviews here on Harmony Central. Given the same conditions, is one better than the other? In what way? What would be a decent purchase price for the Yamaha CG180S? It sold for $499 back in the late 80's. Thanks in advance for your advice and feedback.
Members Freeman Keller Posted October 16, 2006 Members Posted October 16, 2006 Hi, Tincob and welcome to the group. There are people here with a whole lot more knowledge about classicals than I have so I'll keep quiet, but what does your instructor think? She is going to be helping you for a long time with it - I would get her advice.
Members tincob Posted October 16, 2006 Author Members Posted October 16, 2006 My teacher (who's a he) prefers Yamaha in the low end but he's never had any experience with La Patrie guitars so he can't comment. I think Yamaha is the "safer" choice but a lot of people wrote some good reviews for the La Patrie line up of classical guitars. I was hoping to run into some folks on the forum who might have played both guitars and can voice their opinion, one way or another.
