Members Etienne Rambert Posted October 20, 2006 Members Posted October 20, 2006 For some reason, html is disabled in this post. And I can't delete the thread and start over, so I'll post the link. http://music.marcellis.net/daughter's_guitar.JPG VN Rosewood & Curly Maple back, VN Rosewood sides. Spruce top. VN Rosewood fingerboard & bridge. $200 w/hardshell case. No electronics. It sounds like VN Rosewood. It looks like there was a lot of crud on my camera lens or reflecting light something. The finish on the guitar is flawless. I'm carrying it on the plane with me next week. I'm letting a friend borrow my Maple Dragon while I'm back in the States. It's a different luthier than I have been using. There was a honey-colored Maple with fern inlay in his shop. It had a stunning sound. Right now, the two best-sounding guitars on Luthier Street to my ears are that honey-colored Maple and an Indian Rosewood/Ebony with bats inlaid on it at another shop. Bats.
Members Freeman Keller Posted October 20, 2006 Members Posted October 20, 2006 My wife says the best gifts you can give your child are books and music. Sounds like your daughter chose her dad well.
Members Etienne Rambert Posted October 20, 2006 Author Members Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks. She was born Year of the Dragon. There is a pretty dragon inlay in the Maple part of the back. Not much Ebony but a lot of blue Abalone. The action is very nice. I'm never overwhelmed with the sound of VN Rosewood. I prefer IR or Maple for the guitars made here. It seems to be a pretty wood though. There are some very pretty VN Rosewood guitars on the market here.
Members guitarist21 Posted October 21, 2006 Members Posted October 21, 2006 Holy smokes! That is a seriously ornate guitar for $200. Very pretty inlays. Good luck to your daughter! I hope she does well with the guitar. Ellen
Members compsonheir Posted October 22, 2006 Members Posted October 22, 2006 how old's the lil hellraiser?
Members fats Posted October 22, 2006 Members Posted October 22, 2006 That's an awesome looking guitar! ...don't forget to get a humidifier; I'm sure there's a crazy difference!
Members Etienne Rambert Posted October 23, 2006 Author Members Posted October 23, 2006 I've been buried in an appeal I was just hired on and haven't read the posts on this thread for awhile. Tomorrow I fly out. I won't read them for a while longer. _________________ Compsonheir: "how old's the lil hellraiser?" _________________ Nineteen. (No! I ain't posting any pics!) Actually, she's more of a free-spirit than a hellraiser. The workmanship on this guitar isn't as fine as some I've bought here. But interestingly, the setup is better. The action is very nice on this guitar. It's a cheaper instrument than I normally buy. For $200 - it's a deal. I like the idea of a Maple strip in the back. That's real pretty. Doesn't make a difference in the sound from what I can hear. But it's pretty to look at. ____________ Fats: "...don't forget to get a humidifier; I'm sure there's a crazy difference!" ____________ Humidity won't be a problem. She lives in South Louisiana - 77% annual relative humidity. Saigon is 80% average annual relative humidity. Arizona or Southern California would be a problem. Louisiana? Nah.
