Does anybody have any suggestions, what is the best TAYLOR ACOUSTIC for the money. I play an 10 year old Alvarez now and I absolutley hate it, it sounds terrible and I can not get it to sound good. Thank You

What price range?

Overall, I'd say that the new GS are probably the best they've put out. If money were the biggest issue I'd say the 300 series were about the cheapest I'd look at. I'd always liked the 314 (without the CE).

what shape are you do you like? Lots of people have been raving about the grand symphony Series (GS). for a nice Taylor you are going to have to spend 1500-2000 bucks. Otherwise there is the 100 and 200 series which is a little bit cheaper.

Personally I figured I need a decent sounding guitar to take with me on road trips so I just bought a used big baby taylor for 280. I love it. Sounds good to my ears.

Best Taylor? Subjective. Some people hate Taylor guitars. I'm not one of them. But picking one as the best isn't so easy. Ironically, the current issue of Guitar Player contains a blurb about Will Ray's affinity for Taylor Big Baby's and how he won one on eBay; he gushes about how he can't understand how Taylor can make a guitar as good as the Big Baby for the price. I've owned four 4xx series Taylors, and have loved all of them. My current 414ce is a wonderful guitar, and I miss my 410ce. I personally think that the basic Taylor sound can be found the the 3xx and 4xx series, and those guitars play just like more expensive Taylors. There are definitely tonal differences as you move through the ranges, but they're more subtle than you might think. Also, you certainly get more bling as you move up the scale, but that's true of all manufacturers.

For the money, and if your previous git is any reference as you haven't given a range, you'd like the Big Baby in all likelyhood. I agree w' Donk about the 3-series (but then look at my sig and you'll see I'm biased). Limiteds have 'special' woods and great attention to detail IMO. And the GS models are great.

Get out there and shop.

This seems solid to me.

I've vote with Neil and Ray on the 314 - I have one and like it a lot. The one GS I've played was pretty darn sweet too.

I'm big fan of Martin guitars, but when I recently went shopping for a new 6 string acoustic I made myself try a bunch of different brands and models within my price range.

I narrowed it down to the Martin DC Aura and the Taylor 714CE. The Martin is a prettier looking guitar to me, but the Taylor had a deeper mellow sound that I just love. So, I got the Taylor.

I don't know if this model is the best bang for the buck in their product line, but it's the one I liked the best.

Does the 714ce hold up to medium strumming well? My 814ce does, but I'm looking for a possibly mellower, finger picking, alternate tunings kinda guitar that still can handle some strumming.

Yes, it's fine for medium, to medium hard strumming depending on the strings you use.

With the strings I'm using, Dean Markley Alchemy PBs, strumming really hard doesn't make it louder.....it just gets kind of blurry sounding. It makes a lot of volume with just a light touch, moreso I think than my Martin, Alvarez, or Epiphone.

I've just had it for a couple of weeks, so it remains to be seen(heard) what it'll do as it ages.

Does Anybody know where you can find a 2006 model Taylor 3 series or 4 series, either new or in really good hardly used shape for a really good price?

You may want to consider a different brand than Taylor.

Many people compare the Alvarez tone to the Taylor tone.

Check out Martin, Larrivee, Breedlove and Gibson.

That's beautiful. Did you polish the back and sides? I have both a 314 CE L7 and a 354 CE L7, so to say I'm a fan of both the grand auditorium Taylor's and of Tasmanian Blackwood is to state the obvious.

I'm sure the regulars around here are getting tired of seeing me post these pics, but since there are some new names on this thread, here's my L7:

Well I just picked up a 414ce and I found it to be the best sounding guitar in the store. In fact it had a light stripe in the ebony that I'm not 100% fond of so I went to another GC and a small local shop and played 3 more 414ce's and several 514, 614, 714 and 814ce's and none of them had near the mojo of he one with the stripe.

I was planning on trading it in for one that sounded as good but looked a little more consistent on the fingerboard and I wouldn't have taken any of the 614ce's or 814ce's that I played for the same price.

So I guess that's my vote.

I have to say that the 712 I bought changed my life. I adore the sound and the feel of that guitar. I think it's the smaller body that does it for me.

But....it's such a subjective subject.

Like apples and oranges.......
