Members riffmeister Posted October 25, 2006 Members Posted October 25, 2006 what do you think........too "artsy" for use on a CD cover I'm working on?
Members Queequeg Posted October 25, 2006 Members Posted October 25, 2006 it's a fine picture. Contrast could use some adjustment perhaps (reduce backlighting/bring up lighting in foreground).too artsy? I don't think so.
Members Greymuzzle Posted October 25, 2006 Members Posted October 25, 2006 Hmmmm Interestin' pic. -- but 1) I think the multiple light sources need balanced out a bit, for instance the left hand is very high key, but there is very evident back lighting at the back of the head with a section looking burnt out, however right beside this is a specled/mottled defocussed area which looks textured. The graphic shape is strong though&',I think, pleasing. Sttrong enough may be to over challenge text If you want this image I would respectfully suggest that it might look good used as a watermark with the track listing or artiste biog. printed over it Otherwise I would go for eithert a straighter print, or more completely posterised. If from a colour orig. have you tried channel mixer in photoshop for the mono conversion -- it might lend a little aid fwiw imho your mileage may vary etc.
Members t-harper Posted October 25, 2006 Members Posted October 25, 2006 In my endevor of picking things (pictures) for background then thinking of things to print on top of it. I get into a few problems that may be legit here. Color, It is so important to think of the color of printing you desire to use. This picture has multiple hue's in it. Hence when you use a dark color it may get lost. And Vice a versa, light colors will get lost in the light areas. The picture itself is fine. But the structrue of the Text must be kept in mind. Heck any picture can be used. If you keep in mind your text color your using. Where it is going to be placed. What contrasting back ground will it run across. Or are you going to use the picture and print around the edges of this source. Good luck in choosing your CD label picture. This is just a mind thought from the lost ghost out here. Thomas
Members riffmeister Posted October 25, 2006 Author Members Posted October 25, 2006 thanks for your constructive comments! hey, I just had a friend scan this picture of me, it's from 1977. I still have that guitar ('73 Alvarez-Yari), I'll have to do a picture of me with it now.......like what Freeman Keller did in a recent post. Good lord, I had a full head of (long!) hair!!
Members AK47 Posted October 25, 2006 Members Posted October 25, 2006 I'm not a photo kinda guy but I think it's a great pic. Can you put some backround in it? Say maybe a morning meadow?
Members Sweb Posted October 26, 2006 Members Posted October 26, 2006 Greymuzzle's watermark idea is a good one I think. Or monochrome or sepia toned could work. Possibly silouhetted, you know, dark-to-light leaving the light source centered between you and the guitar while the rest fades to black a la Rembrandt. But, you might do better with a shot of you full-frontal sitting on a moped with a dogfood dish on your head wearing wayfarers. Seemed to work for Devo. Sorry. I've wondered what I would do for cover art myself and thought the Devo parody alone would sell the CD if the music didn't. Gotta work every angle.

How about a picture of yourself looking directly at the camera while holding the guitar with your left hand upright on your knee and smiling:confused:
