Members Jessz1 Posted October 26, 2006 Members Posted October 26, 2006 My D41 has a little higher action than I like so I took it to a local guy that has had a shop for fifty something years. I bought my Alvarez from him and he did a great job on it. He said most martins ship with high action. Blamed it on the bluegrass players, Ha!. Anyway, he said that the saddle needed shaved down and that he would take a bit of relief out. Said the frets looked really decent for a factory job and comented on how pretty my guitar was. He had a fym95 (?) in there that sounded huge. Second one of these I have played now and they were both great. I want to find a Larrivee om to try and see if it is worth spending the extra cash on the Alvarez. Anyone play both? I will pick the Martin up on tuesday. I can't wait! I miss her....

Members AndrewGG Posted October 26, 2006 Members Posted October 26, 2006 I hope he looks at the nut slots-almost every Martin I have owned has them cut way too high. The first position is where the guitar usually needs the most attention given in terms of playing comfort.
Members Jessz1 Posted October 26, 2006 Author Members Posted October 26, 2006 Yes he said he would look at them.
Members Jessz1 Posted October 27, 2006 Author Members Posted October 27, 2006 I must say I was a bit aprehensive about taking this to him. He has a great rep and I had a few guitars worked on years ago and was happy. He is in his eighties now and still does amazing work. Great set up!!! I am a very happy man.
