Members Laserpuls Posted October 27, 2006 Members Posted October 27, 2006 I am looking at an early Furch guitar, jumbo CW, JV-61. Old logo, so made before 1994. Cedar top, probably laminated rosewood sides and back, schaller tuners, nut 45 mm wide. Now that's my kind of guitar I guess.I played an Avalon gold series before and loved it; appears these are made at Furch factory! So that should be ok. Ony: the 2nd hand Furch costs 1/7 the price of the new Avalon. So I guess I'll take a look and play that beauty, maybe buy it. Has been in its case for 5 years. (Comes with the case). Now I wonder: anyone familiar with the Furch jumbo's????What are your likes / dislikes? Thanks in advance! And keep plucking these strings....
Members WaveRay Posted October 27, 2006 Members Posted October 27, 2006 Furch is a new one on me. Good luck with that. How's it going over in the old home land?Mom and Dad came from Belgium in 1949. (before me)
Members Laserpuls Posted October 27, 2006 Author Members Posted October 27, 2006 Hidie!!! Furch is a tjech guitar brand that makes waves. Very good workmanship. Take a look at www.furch.cz Distribution is not very broad, hard to find. But critics are raving. About Belgium: it is what it is LOL, a compromise in history, Flemish and Wallons trying to live together dispite economical and cultural gaps. Beers are great, insurances and health care provided for and very good, education top notch. But I miss top notch guitar builders here, and the time to spend time with them in their workshop. Have fun playing that guitar Ray!
Members Laserpuls Posted October 30, 2006 Author Members Posted October 30, 2006 Well, seems like the Furch guitars are really unknown, which I can understand: fairly new brand (1981), east-european production, still small distribution ... yet I would think the word would have gone around about these guitars, since they have had very positive press from european and american reviews alike.I''l keep you posted once I have had the occasion of playing this Jumbo.

A link. http://www.furch.cz/eng/historie.php They look to be pretty nice. I would like to see a distributor like SamAsh pick up their line.
Members Musima Posted October 30, 2006 Members Posted October 30, 2006 An interesting fact is that while Furch-made guitars are next to unknown in the US, they are rather popular in the UK and much of continental Europe (especially Germany where they've been imported for many years now) - I, for one, would put their all-solid guitars on par with Martin quality and their "Stanford" Martin replicas were REALLY nice at a relatively affordable price level - also, you will see Furch-made guitars with other labels such as the Redwood custom line made for the German music store "Musik Schmidt" (http://www.musik-schmidt.de/osc-schmidt/catalog/index.php?cPath=1401_1402&sort=3a&filter_id=507 - the models with "custom" in their model name), the Baton Rouge "N" line made for the German guitar distributor Best Acoustics Reinhardt (http://www.best-acoustics.de/cgi-bin/site.pl?session_id=r_FYaWgBzUXL446cNrsknw&request=products&sub_cat=series_products&series_id=242) and not least the Avalon Gold series (http://www.avalonguitars.com/index.cfm?do=guitars&gid=26) - so, for once, we Europeans can get a good offer on a "home-made" and handmade all solid Martin-type quality acoustic for around 750-1000 euro;) For example, the German internet dealer Guitar24 has the Furch-made Stanford D5VP or OM5VP with solid spruce tops and solid Indian rosewood backs and sides, herringbone inlay, scalopped braces and open headstocks with vintage-type tuners for 879 euro.. If only we were allowed to make searches I would be able to find the links for some photos, I used in an earlier thread involving Furch..
