Thanks, Terry. I had seen the second one, but not the others. What an amazing player and sound.

When I was in high school in the 60's one of the things I did for a date (with the woman who is now my wife) was to go a beatnik (yeah, really) coffee house in Portland Or (under the Burnside Bridge is a really sleazy part of town). Anyway, there was this old guy who played a big old 12 string guitar (with holes in the end that I had never seen before). He played songs like Goodnight Irene and Betty and Dupris - made one hell of an impression on me. It wasn't Leadbelly, but he did a damn good cover. And I will never forget the sound of that old Stella.

LOL - I thought the same thing.

Leadbelly played a mean guitar.

here I am with a high speed computer, recording software & state-of-the-art microphone and have a heck of a time getting a decent sound out of it all, and old Leadbelly with no cable to his guitar and no vocals microphone anywhere in sight gets a faithful reproduction of his performance. 60 years ago!

maybe if I played as well as he did...

Not all do...my good friend Anubis Jones (a bluesmama/guitar-picker extraordinaire) tells me that a lot of younger black folks are appreciating quality music (as opposed to rap) once again.

Alvin Youngblood Hart, Keb Mo, Cassandra Wilson, India.Arie all come to mind... :)
