Members RKO Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 For CHEAP! What kind of nylon string guitar do youse folks recommend?
Members Stackabones Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 Any Yamaha will do. Great guitars at any price. The C40 can be had for around a bill. Check ebay or pawn shops for used Yammies and really good buys.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 you can try to find a match for willie's tone, but its alot easier to just play like willie... wait, maybe i have that backwards...
Members zb0430 Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 Easy... Take an ice pick, make a nice hole in the soundboard of any otherwise horridly worn guitar, and bingo... Or, I second the Yamaha...
Members guit30 Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 Willie picked his classical like a steel string Jim
Members Freeman Keller Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 Remember that Willie plays an old Martin nylon string - I don't remember the model. Martins are kind of hybrids - they have X braces instead of fan and I'm pretty sure Willie use some relative high tension strings (I think TAH posted some info on that). I,m pretty sure he uses a flat pick also, and of course, old Trigger is well aged and has hidden a bit of bud LOL.
Members guit30 Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 He also had a custom preamp down in that big hole that helped his tone Jim
Members zb0430 Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 You'd think with all that success he could afford some strap pins....

He, usually, uses La Bella "Folksinger" ball-end nylons w/ the black trebles...not sure how high the tension is on those.
Members rhat Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 The thing about willie isnt his guitar tone ,, its how he delivers his vocals and his phrasing. Thats the magic in the willie nelson sound. rat

SRV was merely a one-trick-pony blues-rocker...Willie is a consumate musician!
Members guit30 Posted November 20, 2006 Members Posted November 20, 2006 +3 Willie is an awesome guitar picker!!!!! Jim
Members RKO Posted November 20, 2006 Author Members Posted November 20, 2006 Well, I knew that I'd get the "you gotta play like Willie" responses and of course that's true (and I don't!)but I love the sound of that old guitar of his.I love his melodic leads and fills, and have spent considerable time trying to pick up some of his mojo, but basically, this thread was my trying to replicate trigger's tone.
