Members pw5470 Posted November 19, 2006 Members Posted November 19, 2006 Tried this one and another one that was a spruce top http://www.musicgoround.com/gear/inventorydetails.asp?id=413321 I love it....I think I may trade my Ibanez AEF 30 for it today. Going to call first and see if they will give me a quote for it over the phone. If its good enough, may go trade it in. It played so smooth...could not believe it.
Members dysorexia Posted November 20, 2006 Members Posted November 20, 2006 yes, i have an alvarez too, beautiful guitar! Good luck with your trade/purchase.
Members mrfreeze Posted November 20, 2006 Members Posted November 20, 2006 i own this guitar, and it's fantastic!!!! GET IT!!!!!!! Plugged in it sounds even better!!!!! Jon
Members riknofx Posted November 20, 2006 Members Posted November 20, 2006 Right on man, I got the dread vers. of this guitar. It's got a great sound for not being Solid Wood. The finish is a little thick but plays and sounds great Plugged in it is up there with any A/E IMO. Good luck,Rick:thu:
Members pw5470 Posted November 20, 2006 Author Members Posted November 20, 2006 Thanks guys, I'm going to clean up my Ibanez a little and take it in this week.
Members recordingtrack1 Posted November 21, 2006 Members Posted November 21, 2006 I own two Masterbilt's (though they be blems), I am extremely pleased with both. However, the one thing I am not pleased with is the 600 Mk II electronics. If you look at a guitar with this already in place, my opinion is to opt out of that deal. Purchase one with no electronics and install a Baggs. I am extremely impressed with the sound of the Epiphones I have heard with the Baggs system in them. JMHO RT1:thu:
Members riknofx Posted November 21, 2006 Members Posted November 21, 2006 Hey, Just wanted to let you know that I bought my Alvarez from the same store(cary,NC) on your link. I almost went with that one myself. Good luck again. Let us know if you bag her. Also RT1- Your epi-masterbuilts have the Alvarez 600TMK IIpre-amp? Sorry if I misunderstood your post but did you have them installed or is it a different system? I'm looking into a EF500 folk style masterbuilt and am just curious. I have heard nothin but great things about This model and the Baggs too.
Members The Villano Dude Posted November 21, 2006 Members Posted November 21, 2006 Alvarez makes some sweet guitars... not too far from Martin imo. Really good quality... I am also a fan of the acoustics that Godin makes, the Art & Luthiere series.
Members guit30 Posted November 21, 2006 Members Posted November 21, 2006 RTI meant masterworks not masterbilt. He is right ,their electronics are not good. However, love my RD20SJimhttp://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alvarez-RD20S-Regent-Series-Dreadnought-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=518725&src=3WFRWXX
Members kwakatak Posted November 21, 2006 Members Posted November 21, 2006 I have to put my vote of dissent in. I've tried several Alvarez guitars (RD20SC, RF20S, AJ60SC and AJ60S12) and find them to be wanting in the fit and tone dept. To be fair, the AJ60S12 seemed like a good affordable 12 string and could probably be made to sound/fit better after a setup but I certainly wouldn't compare any of them to a Martin unless it was one of the X series. BTW - I could say the same of some comparable Takamines, and I'm a long-time Tak owner.
Members guit30 Posted November 21, 2006 Members Posted November 21, 2006 Neil, No such thing as a RF20S, Wouldn't compare to Martin either, but better than lots of the other guitars like Seagull, Ibanez etc.
Members kwakatak Posted November 22, 2006 Members Posted November 22, 2006 Apoligies... it was definitely an RF-something or other. I was totally underwhelmed by it, so it might've been the -8.

I have got to remember: Alvarez = Masterworks Epiphone = Masterbilt Both are very good guitars for the money. I own Masterworks Alvarez. I also like the Masterbilt Epiphones. I play in church with one of my music store buddies. His store has the local Epiphone Franschise. His Epi's have Baggs systems in them and I am envious of how good they sound. My Alvarez, with the 600 sounds like crap. The Baggs system just blows away the 600. I would take it out and throw it away, except it would leave a hole in the side of my guitar large enough to drive a truck through. So it goes. Now, when I pull out the Taylor . . . and BTW I use: ELIXIRS! it is a whole different ballgame. The ES system in the Taylor smokes the Baggs. quote__________________________originally posted by Riknofx Also RT1- Your epi-masterbuilts have the Alvarez 600TMK IIpre-amp? Members Jenkinsear Posted November 23, 2006 Members Posted November 23, 2006 I have an Alvarez from '82. I love it. It doesn't get much better than an aged, beautiful, resonant acoustic.
