Good travel guitar?

I just recently got back from a long trip without playing guitar. I had gotten myself a crappy Wal-Mart guitar, but I'd rather have something of good quality and something that can be taken back & forth. I was thinking of either getting a Baby Taylor M or the solid top Little Martin. Unless there's something better

I have no experience with the Baby Taylor. I do know they have no kerfing to support the top, back, and sides. Though it seems to be a nice little guitar IMHO it's a little fragile to put in its gig bag, put in a trunk, and do any serious travel with. I'd look elsewhere. I tried an Alvarez mini dred in a store not too long ago that I thought sounded amazing for its size. Much better than the Big Baby IMO. Check "Musicians Friend" for travel guitars there are many to choose from. Larrivee has a nice parlor guitar. If you are just playing for yourself Yamaha has its "Silent Guitar" that has a decent acoustic electric sound that you can listen to with head phones but be quiet for the rest of the world. Works good for motel rooms. The choices seem endless. I don't care much for the "Little Martin" or "Backpacker" either. Go out to some stores if you can and see what you can find to try out. Good luck and have fun shopping.

I have an Aria Sinsonido 100s much like the Yamaha at half the price. it is steel string 25.5 scale and has stereo output to headphones or computer speakers or with a radioshack transmitter any FM radio. it is very light and would make a great 1st guitar. i got mine at moores music for $278. the gig bag sucks but the guitar is cool.

I must put in a plug for Sam Radding at Go-Guitars. I bought one of the mahogany Go guitars back in 2000, and it's been my constant companion - going with me on plane, car and train trips and to the office each week as well. It's better than the Martin backpacker in several ways: 1) it has a body that actually fits on your knee, so you don't have to use a strap, 2) it has a hand-cut bone nut and saddle, 3) it's pretty much handmade in the USA - not in Mexico, and 3) Sam will work with you to make sure that it has the neck size and profile you want. It doesn't replace my dred or little jumbo, but it has a very nice, if quiet tone. I can't recommend it highly enough - of all my guitar purchases, this is the one I like the best.
