I wanted to check out the fingerboard inlay on a 000-42, which I liked...the inlay that is. The guitar didn't really impress me that much. Now I know why AndrewGG doen't like short scales. They seem kind of dead.

The best guitar I played was a Breedlove. Don't know the model but it had a cedar top, rosewood B/S, electronics, (which I'm not interested in), and listed at $3999, but is on sale at $2699.

Breedlove does make a pretty good guitar. This was the first time I ever tried one.

Also played the Martin Felix the Cat, which is all in black, plywood neck, some sort of synthetic top, back, and sides. But, I liked this guitar. I could get it to sound pretty good, actually, though it is a bit nasal. Still if you wanted a guitar to kick around and never worry about, and have one that is not at all serious, it's not bad. A fun little short scale guitar.

Also, looked at some of the stocking stuffer possibilities. Dadarrio is offering five packs of EJ16 strings with a Planet Waves S.O.S. tuner free, $29.99.

Ya, that exact breedlove nearly threw me off of my 814ce. About the same price point, but the Taylor won for strumming, hands down... Still, the breedlove was a stunning piece. Think I might get a cedar topped guitar next...

That Breedlove was probably the Performance Focus series dread. I played that too. It caused me to ask my GC to ship in the Breedlove Concert model to check out and I ended up buying it last weekend. It beat out anything anyone else produces in that price range, IMO, and I've played quite a few. The Cedar top on EIR B/S with a 15 X 4-9/16 lower bout produces a phenominal sound. It strums just fine for me though I don't do much of that.

I think I have tried that black martin at my local store you are talking about. It sounded pretty damn good for being small and made out of crap. Comparable to my big baby imo..

Cripes, it wasn't the dread, though I did try the dread, too. I think it was the concert model, that you may have gotten.

Nice hard-to-describe fingerboard inlay instead of dots. A beautiful rich tone guitar, with great note articulation. And their usual strange shape affords a "cutaway" that makes those upper frets completely reachable. A very enjoyable experience.

Musicians Friend had a D'Addario EJ16 package promotion with the Planet Waves tuner for $29.95 a couple of months ago, except that it was 10 sets of EJ16s, rather than 5.

I ordered it, and you know, that tuner surprised me, It is really very good. I like it at least as much as the Intellitouch PT-1 tuner I bought earlier in the year.

(Plus, I generally play D'Addario EJ16s anyway)

I like cutaways. I walk up there quite a bit and need the room. I play the 000-17S usually for slower first position music but lately I've been at and above the 12th fret. Besides, that guitar just has that wonderful tone.

I bought the EJ16 strings with the Planet Waves S.O.S. tuner last weekend. The tuner is pretty cool. It will make a great campfire companion.
